How many words can you read in a minute?

The speed of speech is relative. In general, Chinese expresses meaning and spreads information at a speed of about 240 syllables per minute, and the speed of radio and television news broadcast is about 300 words per minute.

The normal speech speed is about 280 words (including punctuation) //min, which is obviously too fast and nervous. Speaking too slowly, on the one hand, shows that the speaker is not confident enough, on the other hand, it is easy to distract the audience. It is estimated that about 200 words/minute is the appropriate speech speed.

Practice skills of speech speed control

Stage 1

Time-limited reading: Choose a short passage of about 200 words (including punctuation) for your child, but it is not recommended to choose poetry and prose because you only do speed control exercises. In the process of reading, we should pay attention to accurate pronunciation, clear articulation, blank time of one word in comma, blank time of two words in period, blank time of title and quotation marks.

The sentence itself should be fluent, and there should be obvious pauses in punctuation between sentences. When reading aloud, use your mobile phone to record your child's reading aloud. Be sure to read these words within 60 seconds, and then play them back to the child so that he can find the problem and improve it. Practice 30 times a day and gradually form the habit of reading aloud.

Second phase

Deliberate imitation: let the children imitate at a standard speed, such as the news announcer on TV, which is relatively moderate. They say a sentence and let the children imitate it. Because the announcer's speech speed is trained. After imitating for a period of time, you can also choose someone who likes your child's speaking style to imitate. At this stage, tell children to do exercises and control the speed of speech in the process of communicating with friends and classmates.

Stage 3

Speech exercise: prepare a 200-word speech (including punctuation) for your child in advance. Read aloud first, and parents will help the child time to 60 seconds, but the child will adjust the speech speed according to the situation.
