"Ten thousand poles are leaning" comes from "Wind" written by Li Qiao in the Tang Dynasty. The original sentence is "Thousands of poles are leaning into the bamboo".
Original poem:
Three autumn leaves fall, and February flowers bloom.
Thousands of feet of waves cross the river, and thousands of bamboo poles slant into it.
Translation:
It can blow down the golden leaves in autumn and open the beautiful flowers in spring. If it blows across the river, it can set up giant waves thousands of feet high; if it blows into the bamboo forest, it can make thousands of poles tilt.
Poetry Appreciation
"Three autumn leaves fall, and February flowers can bloom", which means that when the autumn wind blows, the fallen leaves fall, but when the spring breeze blows, flowers bloom everywhere. "Sanqiu", autumn, also refers to the third month of autumn, which is the ninth month of the lunar calendar. There is a sentence in Wang Bo's "Preface to Prince Teng's Pavilion": "The time is September, and the preface belongs to the third autumn". In the third autumn season, the autumn wind blows, the grass and trees wither, and the leaves fall. This is also a natural phenomenon.
In "February", all things are revived, full of vitality, flowers bloom, and are filled with the unique atmosphere of spring. The two numbers "three" and "two" play the role of pointing out the seasons, and also imply that different scenery appears in different seasons. At the same time, it also shows that everything is regular.
"Thousands of feet of waves across the river, thousands of bamboo poles slanting into the river" means that strong winds blow to the river, huge waves are rolling, and the breeze blows into the bamboo forest, and the branches and poles are constantly swaying. The two numbers "thousands" and "ten thousand" have replaced the thick and colorful descriptions. The "Thousand-foot Waves", with strong winds and waves, are spectacular, and the "Ten Thousand-Level Pole", with dense bamboo shadows and swaying in the wind, can be called a secluded place.
