Born in Harbin on November 17, 1948, he went to primary school in Chengdu and middle school in Xichang, Liangshan. He joined the army in Yan'an and worked as a herdsman and warehouse keeper at the General Logistics Horse Farm in Fuxian County, and then worked as a worker and Secretary of the factory youth league committee, creative member of the cultural troupe and news reporting officer, etc. He was admitted to university in 1978. While in school, he won the National Poetry Award and joined the Chinese Writers Association. Vice Chairman of the Liaoning Provincial Writers Association, in 1982 he was assigned to the Sichuan Writers Association's "Stars" poetry magazine as editor, deputy editor, and chief editor for ***12 years. In 1994, he was transferred to the Department of Literature and Art of Beijing Broadcasting Institute as department director and professor. In 1995, he was transferred to the Chinese Writers Association as deputy editor-in-chief, executive deputy editor-in-chief, editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief of Poetry Magazine. He is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese Writers Association and an expert enjoying government subsidies from the State Council.
He has won the Poetry Award for Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Poets of the Chinese Writers Association (1979-1980), the Third China New Poetry Collection Award (1985-1986), the October Literature Award, the Sichuan Literature Award, the Beijing Literature Award, There are more than 40 national and provincial literary and art awards including the Guo Moruo Literature Award.
