Complete poem
Climbing the pagoda of Ci'en Temple with Gao Shi Xue Zhi
[Tang Dynasty] Cen Shen
The power of the pagoda is like pouring out, solitary Towering heavenly palace.
When you step out of the world, the path is empty.
The sudden pressure on China is like a ghost work.
The four corners block the day, and the seven layers cover the sky.
Peering down to see a tall bird, looking down to hear the startling wind.
The mountains are like waves, rushing towards the east.
The green locust trees line the Chi Road, and the palaces and pavilions are so exquisite.
Autumn colors come from the west, and Guanzhong is full of green.
On the Wuling North Plain, it is evergreen.
Once you understand the principles clearly, you will be able to understand them, and you will win because of your long-standing teachings.
I vow to hang up my crown and feel that my Taoism is infinite.
Appreciation of the whole poem
In the tenth year of Tianbao (751), Cen Shen returned to Chang'an for the first time from the fortress. This poem was written during his stay in Chang'an with the poets Du Fu, Gao Shi, Xue Ju, This is a famous poem about scenery written by Chu Guangxi when he visited Ci'en Temple Pagoda with him.
Du Fu said: "Brothers Cen Shen are all curious." This pagoda poem fully demonstrates the curious side of Cen Shen's poetry. This wonderful poetic style is in perfect harmony with the mystery of the pagoda, truly achieving a poetic realm in which scenes blend and inner emotions and external representations are harmoniously unified. The poem is extremely ingenious in describing the majesty of Ci'en Temple's tower. "Like gushing out", "Towering the heavenly palace", "Hindering the daylight", "Mounting the sky", etc., the language is so wonderful that it makes people feel immersed in the scene, and makes people marvel at it.
