Xu Zhimo’s representative poem is "Farewell Cambridge"?
Farewell Cambridge
Gently I left,
Just as I come gently;
I wave gently,
and say goodbye to the clouds in the western sky.
The golden willows by the river,
are the bride in the sunset;
The beautiful shadow in the ripples,
is in my heart Ripple.
The green banana plants on the soft mud,
swaying oilily under the water;
In the soft waves of the Cam River,
I would rather be a waterweed!
The pool under the shade of elm trees,
is not a clear spring,
it is a rainbow in the sky;
crushed among the floating algae,< /p>
Precipitated rainbow-like dreams.
Looking for a dream? Take a long punt pole,
Walk back to where the grass is greener;
Load a boat full of stars,
Sing songs in the colorful starlight.
But I can’t sing,
Quietness is the shengxiao of parting;
The summer insects are also silent for me,
Silence is today Late Cambridge!
Quietly I left,
just as quietly as I came;
I waved my sleeves,
not taken away A cloud.
Creative background
Xu Zhimo visited Cambridge three times.
The first time was from 1921 to 1922, when he came from the United States to study at the Graduate School of Cambridge University. During his studies, he formed a bourgeois outlook on life and literature and art. Simple belief in love, beauty and freedom produced the social ideals for which he was enamored. In other words, the British civilization embodied in Cambridge formed the Cambridge ideal he aspired to pursue. He regards Cambridge as his "source of life" and "home of spiritual attachment". His interest also turned to literature, and he loved writing poetry. After returning to China, he wrote the poem "See You Again in Cambridge".
I visited again in April 1925. After returning to China, I wrote the essay "The Cambridge I Know".
The third time was in August 1928, when I wrote "Farewell Cambridge Again".
The poet's emotions when he said goodbye to Cambridge three times were also very different. From the first attachment to the third time he said goodbye, his mood was very different. This was because of the invasion of imperialism and the old China under the rule of warlords after returning to China. , which made him feel painfully that Cambridge's idealism was shattered, and that "pure faith flowed into the decadence of doubt." Therefore, in "Farewell Cambridge", the fervent attachment when writing "Goodbye Cambridge" can no longer be found. Although he also sung the beauty of the Cam River, he revealed more of his loneliness and loneliness. The poet used a lingering and sad tone to subtly reveal his infinite sadness due to the disillusionment of the "Cambridge Fantasy".
