Creative background:

196 1 year, Yunnan writer Li went to Xishuangbanna to convey the instructions of the central authorities on literary and artistic work. Here, he went deep into life and carried out short-term collecting activities. Xishuangbanna's beautiful scenery and people's upward life and mental outlook greatly infected him.

In a short time, he wrote a series of poems in Xishuangbanna, including a short poem, which is the lyrics of "Horse, Walk Slowly". This short poem was published in the February issue of Frontier Literature and Art (1962) along with Xishuangbanna Poetry Notes. After this poem was published, it was repeatedly read by Pan Jie with the music of china national radio.

After hearing this poem, the comrades of China Musicians Association all liked it very much. He introduced this short poem to composer Sheng Mao, hoping that he would compose it. When receiving this poem, Sheng Mao lived in Zunhua, Hebei.

He was deeply attracted by the breadth and brightness of Hebei folk songs. He mainly composed Hebei music, mixing Jiangsu and Zhejiang local music with poetry, and soon finished composing. After the music creation is completed, it is first sung by the soprano Ma Yutao of the Comrades Song and Dance Troupe. After revision, the lyrics of this song were published in the monthly Song of 1964+0.
