The products of these gloomy moments should be discarded!
Don't complain about your surly fate,
When blind gamblers are unlucky.
Behind the clouds accompanied by wind and rain,
The setting sun shines in the distance, and the light is dim;
But tomorrow, in the bright sunshine of the east,
The turbulent sea will roll up colorful waves!
The hand of time is like a violent autumn wind.
Skimming the mysterious strings, the melody is solemn;
And with the change of melody, groups of joys and sorrows.
Alternating, dancing like a shadow!
Every moment of time carries fate on its wings;
The whisper of the Seine once made the shepherd boy sleepy.
He drove the tired cow back to the shed for the night.
But today, he has become the monarch of a difficult country.
Without revenge, fate will not smile,
Look closely at the bloody rule of the tyrant,
Throwing him down from Xuan's throne,
Tell him to live alone on a desolate island.
He trembled sadly in the biting wind and rain,
Wrapped his tired limbs in his purple robe;
He mixed the crown jewels with other treasures.
(It's all the same anyway! ) to change food to satisfy hunger.

On the surface, replying a melancholy letter to a friend seems to be an epistolary poem, which should be aimed at a more specific theme. But through reading the whole poem, we find that poetry, like other poets' works, can always grasp universality in concrete and write some contents with social significance and philosophical depth.
In the first three sections, the poet described it as magnificent with his consistent style and poetic metaphor. The hero advised his friends not to care too much about the "dark moments" of life, complaining about fate blindly is like complaining about the hostility of gamblers. To get rid of this depressed mood, we need to have a high vision. The stormy clouds and bleak sunset are only temporary. After the ebb tide, the sun is shining and magnificent. Optimism about the future comes not only from lofty knowledge, but also from optimistic attitude towards life, from people's insight and grasp of the laws of everything in the world. The poet's views on these two states of life are very calm. He thinks that the joys and sorrows of life are like different styles of melodies that time plays on the strings. He poetically described it as the autumn wind playing the piano: "The hand of time is like the raging autumn wind,/passing the mysterious strings ..." With the change of melody, the joys and sorrows of life appear alternately on these strings. If the above three sections are the poet's general thoughts on the changes of the world's destiny, then the following three sections are illustrated with concrete examples.
Time is the secret of everything, and every moment of it contains rich contents. It plays various tones on the piano of fate, affecting the fate of ordinary people. A shepherd boy may become a monarch overnight, and a tyrant may also encounter chaos, be displaced and wander alone on a desolate island. Although he has rare treasures, he can only change some food to satisfy his hunger. The author uses the different experiences of two characters to illustrate a truth, that is, whether extremely good or extremely bad, they are interdependent, which echoes the contents of the previous three sections, thus forming a very profound philosophical expression of the poem.
The theme of poetry is that everything will change with time, that is, "every moment of time carries a fate on its wings", which is as changeable as autumn wind. Poetry is divided into two parts in structure, the first three sections are the first part and the last three sections are the second part. The first part is "supporting things" and the second part is "rising". The statements in support of things in the first part not only reflect the consistent characteristics of romanticism being close to nature, but also reflect their dependence and application of metaphorical meaning, rather than their simple feelings for nature. In the second part, the cited world examples are slightly straightforward and shallow. But the combination of these two parts still embodies Coleridge's poetic theory. He believes that the ideal poet can make people's whole mind and various functions enter a coordinated and orderly state and become active. He can rely on the magical power of imagination, which has a synthetic function, to promote the opposition or opposition factors such as similarities and differences, commonness and concreteness, individuality and * * *, concept and image, freshness and familiarity, to achieve balance, harmony and integration, and to make art consistent with natural creation. The front and back parts of this poem can be understood as the material of two opposing poems, and the poet connects them to express the same theme. The metaphors in the front and back parts are also rich, such as wind and rain, chaotic clouds, sunset, brilliant sunshine, colorful waves, hands of time, violent autumn wind, etc., as well as gamblers, shepherds, monarchs and other specific figures, all of which are reconciled by the author with his own thoughts.
