Introduction by Swinburne

Swinburne (1837- 1909) was the last important poet in Victorian England. Swinburne advocates Greek culture, is deeply influenced by the works of French Hugo and Baudelaire, and shares the same interests with British "pre-Raphaelite" Luo Saidi and other artists. In artistic techniques, he pursues the bright, gorgeous and bold novelty of the image; Harmony, grace and softness of tone. The artistic features of Swinburne's poems have had a profound influence on foreign poets since the 20th century.
