The fourth of twenty drinking poems

Tao Yuanming

Birds without birds fly alone at dusk.

Wandering endlessly, every night my voice becomes sad.

Think about where to go in the morning.

Because value is lonely, loose and distant.

There is no glorious wood in the strong wind, and this shade is absolutely unique.

I have my house, which has a history of 1000 years.

The wandering bird will become an individual, so it will look for it, groan in the search, and the flight it seeks is lonely. This bird is an animal. When lost birds come across a solitary pine after a long search, they recognize themselves from this solitary pine, or find a bosom friend and convert. Solitude is a kind of quietness. How can people be at peace without turmoil in the stormy waves of society? After the natural gale, how can vegetation not wither? However, between nature and human beings, only two things are moving and static-lost birds and lonely pine trees. They reasonably agree with each other that birds can hold their bodies and pine trees can release their quiet souls. This experience is self-consistent!

It's all very accidental. Birds occasionally lose their groups, and pine trees occasionally live alone, but it is this accident that makes them transcend the collective, affirm each other's complete individual selves, and have a comrade-like response and communication. Of course, it goes without saying that these two things are also metaphors for people.

These two images need to be well explored, one is called the lost bird, and the other is called the solitary pine.

Appreciate:

Upper part

The first six sentences of this poem are about the stray bird, lonely and wandering.

At dusk, a lost bird is still flying alone. It is alone, inhabiting in fear, wandering in the sky trembling, and never finding a place to rest. Day after day, night after night, its cry becomes more and more sad. In its piercing cry, you can hear the ideal of longing for a deep and lofty place. It flies around, but there is nowhere to go.

Comment: The birds here symbolize the poet's habitat panic in the first half of his life. Since the age of twenty-nine, Tao Yuanming has been a small official intermittently, such as offering wine in Jiangzhou, joining the army in Zhenjun and joining the army in Jianwei. At the age of 41, he worked for Peng for eighty-five days. Because he "can't bend over to the villains in the village for five buckets of rice", he was dismissed. These life experiences of the poet are the facts implied in the first half of this poem.

The second half

In the second half of this poem, I wrote about the bird's shelter and vowed not to leave.

It met a lonely pine tree, so it folded its wings and came to live here from far away. Under the strong storm, there would not have been lush forests, but the shade of solitary pines has never declined, and only quiet villages can survive.

Comment: It is not unreasonable for the poet to compare his secluded place to solitude. Yuan Ming has a special affection for pine trees, just as he treats chrysanthemums. For example, the eighth song "Drinking, Song Qing in the East Garden" praises the solitary pine, and there is such a sentence: "Song Qing is in the East Garden, and there is much grass and no posture. First frost is different and can see the high branches. " It can be seen that he spoke highly of the excellent quality of this pine tree in Ao Shuang. And knowing that there is probably a tall and straight pine tree in the East Garden where he lives, he also said in "Come home to Xi Ci": "The three paths are barren, and the pine chrysanthemum still exists." He also said: "The scenery is going to enter, and it is lonely and lingering." It can be seen that the "solitary pine" here is both a symbol and practical significance. Of course, the noble and honest of pine trees have something in common with the lofty and upright personality of Yuanming. In these six sentences, the poet expressed his attachment and love for rural life. For example, in the last poem of the same group of poems, "Building a house in a person's environment", he fully expressed his feelings and thought it was the best way to stay away from the hubbub, so he was willing to keep it for thousands of years and never part.
