Flowers are not flowers
Author: Bai Juyi Era: Tang Genre: Word Category: Unknown
Flowers are not flowers, fog is not fog,
Come at midnight and leave at dawn.
The arrival is like a spring dream, not long after,
the departure is like a morning cloud with nowhere to find.
Notes:
①The flower is not a flower, the mist is not a mist: Do you think it is a flower? If it's not a flower, do you think it's fog? It's not fog.
②Lai Rushu: It came like a spring dream and didn’t stay long.
③Go like a sentence: After leaving, it is like the clouds drifting away in the morning, nowhere to be found.
This is a love poem. Flowers are not flowers, mist is not mist, they are not flowers, they are not mist. Flowers have something to say, and mist has something to say. He wanted to speak but stopped, but he couldn't help but tell the truth - it came in the middle of the night and went away at dawn. It was neither flowers nor fog, which meant that someone was definitely coming. Who comes and who goes? Keep it hidden but don’t spit it out. Why come? There are not many spring dreams, but endless aftertaste; the morning clouds suddenly disperse, and I feel regretful and melancholy. Spring dreams are spring feelings; morning clouds are "morning clouds in the morning, rain in the evening, and under the balcony in the morning and evening". This poem is composed of a series of metaphors, the description is obscure but true, and there is rhythmic order and intricate beauty in the hazyness. It is an excellent work of love poetry. Later generations once composed it into a piece of music, which was widely circulated.
