Appreciation of poems accompanying Pei Deng to Yueyang Tower

The first couplet describes the vast scenery of Dongting Lake, and the second couplet "Li follows Xu Ruzi, Poetry follows Xie Xuancheng" describes the comparison between Du Fu and Xu Zhihe, a famous scholar in the Eastern Han Dynasty, and Li corporal Chen Fan and Pei. It can be seen that Du Fu's treatment in Yueyang for several months is very good. Xie Xuan refers to Xie Tiao, a poet of the Southern and Northern Dynasties. He writes beautifully and is good at five-character poems. He used to be the magistrate of Xuancheng, so he is also known as Xie Xuancheng. Here, Du Fu compared Pei to Xie Tiao and praised him. "Poetry follows" is Du Fu's correct way of singing Pei's poems. With such courtesy and hospitality, Mr. Pei went upstairs to enjoy the lakes and mountains. At this moment, Du Fu was so excited. Du Fu told Pei in Yueyang that he was also very happy. When you see an old friend who is hungry and cold, so lonely, it is inevitable to give him warm hospitality. So Du Fu got spiritual and material comfort in Yueyang. So there is "snow covers plums, and spring mud is full of grass." Dare to disobey the fisherman's question and go south from now on

The last two sentences have always been controversial. Anyone who has read Biography of Qu Yuan will remember the story that the fisherman advised Qu Yuan to "keep pace with the times" and "go with the flow". So, what does Du Fu mean by using this code name? "Xu Lijia's son, the poem meets Xie Xuancheng." There is no doubt that this is a compliment to Pei Shi Jun. The reason for praise, I think, is not just a form of the scene. No matter what the motive, Pei entertained Du Fu and accompanied Du Fu (not Du Fu accompanying Pei) to climb the building and overlook. But because of this, it is probably not Du Fu's consistent style of dealing with people. When Du Fu was in Jiangling, he repeatedly praised Wei Yubo, the king of Yangcheng County who was guarding Jingzhou. Although Wei was not born in imperial examinations and didn't understand poetry and songs, he held the military and political power in Jingzhou. Du Fu's praise is actually an "emotional investment", hoping to win Wei's favor with his heartfelt praise in words, and once again "entrust the government" to continue to write a replica story at the intersection of Chengdu. Unfortunately, Wei is not. Du Fu's "showing love" has become a ridiculous and heartbreaking unrequited love today. Based on this, we can also regard Peideng Yueyang Tower as a continuation of Du Fu's Jiangling series of poems. Du Fu hoped that Pei could take in and reuse himself at this time. As can be seen from the poem, Pei is also a scholar, and a scholar should treat the great poet with courtesy, care, comfort and even use it. It's just that such an idea can't be clearly stated. After all, I have never met Pei Shijun, and I don't know much about him. Therefore, at the end of the poem, I can only express my wish implicitly with allusions: I hope you can treat me like Fan Chen and Xu Ruzi, and let me stay in Yueyang against the fisherman's persuasion and never "keep pace with the times" again. In other words, if you can't "treat Xu Ruzi with courtesy", then I dare to go against the fisherman's advice and have to "keep pace with the times", in today's words, "follow my feelings" and continue to "go south" helplessly. Maybe Pei Shi Jun didn't understand Du Fu's meaning or understand him, but just pretended not to know and didn't want to pay attention. In a word, Du Fu soon left Yueyang and went to Hengzhou. In a sense, Yueyang is actually another sad place for Du Fu (just not as sad as in Jiangling, because he has little hope of staying in Yueyang). But two sentences in the poem "A Journey to the South" written shortly after I left Yueyang clearly expressed my dissatisfaction and indignation. Among them, I'm afraid I should also give some to Yueyang and Pei of Yueyang.
