1. Yi Yi, a native of Quanzhou, China, traveled east to Japan in his prime. Along the way, he was a hermit tea maker, always carrying a tea pot with him, enjoying himself both cooking rice and making tea. After arriving in Japan, I often sang and responded to famous monks from the Five Mountains with poems. Monk Rongxi, who brought tea back to Japan from China and wrote Japan's first tea book "Eating Tea for Health", is one of the famous monks in the Five Mountains.
Once, Ikkyu went to visit Yiyi because of his fame. After meeting, the two of them sat down. Yixiu suddenly asked: "Everything has a path, how can it be one way?" Yixiu replied: "Everything has its own way, how can it be Yixiu?"
2. A man came to learn Zen from Yixiu and asked a lot of questions. , but didn't say a word for a while, just pouring tea for the guests. The tea cup was full, but I kept on taking a break. As a result, the tea overflowed the cup and flowed everywhere. The guest reminded Ikkyu, and Ikkyu said: "Your head is just like this teacup. It is already full of your inherent ideas. How can you put anything new in it?"
3. Kyoto There is a young monk named Yixiu in Anguo Temple, who is smart and witty. The monk is already old, and his only happiness is eating maltose in secret after the junior monks go to bed. But one night the little monks discovered the candy and said, "Oh! It looks delicious!" The little monk saw the monk eating maltose and wanted to eat it. So he entered the room and asked, "Master! What on earth is that?
It looks like something delicious!" The old monk felt guilty and said, "This is medicine for old people and drugs for children. Cha! Go to sleep." Go to bed!" The next day, the monk was going to chant sutras and said to the young monks, "Everyone, please take good care of your house!" and went out. When everyone saw that the old monk had left, everyone gathered around the wheat candy pot and asked, "Is it true that it is poison?" But Yixiu said, "Oh! Come and eat wheat candy!"
"You will be scolded by the master. ."people say. "It doesn't matter, I have a solution!" So everyone started eating maltose. The maltose was so delicious. Everyone finished the maltose quickly and the sugar pot was empty. The young monks became worried, but Yixiu was calm and not afraid. He took out the master's precious inkstone and deliberately broke it. Soon, the old monk came back and cried loudly.
"What's wrong? Ikkyu! Why are you crying?" "I was washing Master's inkstone in the yard and accidentally broke it. In order to apologize and want to die, everyone ate the maltose, but they were not dead yet. The old monk had no choice but to say: "Don't cry. The stuff in the pot is maltose, not a drug. You won't die if you eat it. I was wrong to lie. I'm sorry." The monk scratched his head and told the truth.
4. When Ikkyu meditated on wisdom meditation, General Yoshimitsu heard about it and wanted to meet him, so he asked Ikkyu to come to the solemn Kinkakuji Temple. Yoshimitsu pointed at the screen and smiled: "Ikkyu! The tiger painted on this screen runs out every night. Please tie him up!" "Okay, please lend me a strong rope and headband." p>
Ikkyu was not afraid. He pulled up his shirt sleeves, put on a cloth headband, and held the rope. He jumped into the court and said, "You can tie up the tiger! Whoever it is, drive the tiger out of the screen!" "What, what's wrong?" The proud general also became frightened at this time. "Please! Drive the tiger out quickly! It may be frightened and panicked after looking at me, and it doesn't dare to come out. Please help!"
No one can drive out the tiger on the screen. The general's other subordinates were ashamed. Then I lined up the delicious dishes and rice in front of the old monk Ikkyu. The old monk had the remaining fish meat and swallowed it as soon as he had a rest. "Ikkyu, you are a monk, why did you eat the fish?" the general said reproachfully. Ikkyu replied: "My throat is like a road, and even the vegetable seller and fish bag can pass through it."
"Can the sword pass through?" The general drew his sword and pointed it at Ikkyu's throat. Ikkyu was not worried, "Only swordsmen are allowed to pass this sword." "I will reward you with this sword!" the general could only say. Ikkyu continued to study and later became a great Zen master.
5. Mr. Duoping from the soybean oil store likes Go, and the old monk also likes to play Go. Every night, Duoping comes to visit the old monk, and the two of them play Go until midnight, so the young monk They couldn't sleep even if they wanted to. Although there was a broom standing on his head and a charm to thank the guest and drive him away, Mr. Duoping did not go back. It’s so nerve-wracking for the little monks.
I went to ask Ikkyu if there was any good way: "Ikkyu, brother! It's terrible to do this every night! Is there any good way?" "Well..." Ikkyu seemed to have thought of something, I came up with a solution: "Okay, from tomorrow on, don't let Mr. Daping come!" On the evening of the next day, Ikkyu unfolded a large piece of paper, and it read, "Those who write about worn animal skins are not allowed to come in." !”
He put the paper on the doorpost, and at night, Mr. Duoping came in wearing an animal skin vest as usual, because he was afraid of the cold. When he came to the mountain, he saw the sticker, but he still came in. "Oh! Mr. Duoping, have you seen the sticker on the pillar?" "Ah! I saw it!" "People wearing animal skins can't come in, so why are they in?" "Then, our big drum can be used
Does the drum have animal skin? How about it? Young monks, have you lost?" Then he came in majestically. Ikkyu waited: "Wait! Mr. Daping! Yes, the big drum is made of animal skin, so it will be beaten day and night. Mr. Daping is still the same, he will be beaten." After Ikkyu gave the order, the young monks picked up the sticks. Stick, attack Mr. Doping.
"Help!" Mr. Duoping walked away holding his head.
"No, let's go!" From then on, Mr. Duoping did not dare to stay in Anguo Temple for too long.
