Information and pictures of poplar trees

Aspen trees are deciduous trees, usually 15-30 meters tall. The bark is gray-white, the branches are round and rod-shaped, brown or gray-brown, and pubescent when young.

Single leaves are alternate; oval, 4 to 5 cm long, pointed at the apex, heart-shaped at the base, with two prominent glands and wavy teeth on the edge. The upper side is dark green and hairless, and the lower side is light green. There are fine gray hairs when young and fall off when old. The petiole is 3 to 4 cm long.

Flowers unisexual and dioecious; soft yellow inflorescences axillary. Fruit oval, glabrous.

Grows in sparse forests on sunny slopes. It is cold-tolerant, has deep roots, and has strong wind resistance. It does not have strict requirements on soil conditions, but it grows well in moist and fertile sandy soil.

Extended information:

Polar trees are native to China and are widely distributed, ranging from southern Liaoning and Inner Mongolia in the north to the Yangtze River Basin in the south, with the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River as suitable areas.

Aspen is a strongly positive tree species. Likes a cool, humid climate. In places where the temperature difference between day and night is relatively large in early spring, tree bark often cracks due to frost, commonly known as "broken stomach disease".

In warm, hot and rainy climates, they are susceptible to pests and diseases and suffer from poor growth. It is not strict with the soil and grows quickly on deep fertile, moist loam or sandy loam. It grows poorly in arid, barren, low-lying, water-logged saline-alkali lands and sandy wastelands, and suffers from serious pests and diseases, easily forming "small old trees". Slightly tolerant to salt and alkali, large trees are resistant to water and moisture, have deep roots, well-developed root systems, strong rhizosphere sprouting and tillering, fast growth, smoke and dust resistance, and pollution resistance.

It is the longest tree species in the genus Populus, with a lifespan of up to 200 years.
