Yao Nai advocated the integration of rationality, textual research, and discourse into one, and proposed to seek the "spiritual flavor" from "rhyme, sound and color", which can be regarded as a supplement to Liu Dakui's theory. He also put forward the masculine and feminine style theory, which was highly praised by later generations. Yao Nai's articles are concise and plain, full of sentiment. His landscape travel notes are fresh and elegant, such as "Climbing Mount Tai" and so on.
