Seven Bowls of Tea Poems

Don Lu Tong

One bowl of throat is moist, and the other two bowls are lonely.

three bowls of search are poor, but there are only five thousand volumes of words.

four bowls of light sweat, and all the troubles in my life are scattered to my pores.

Five bowls of muscle and bone clear, and six bowls of fairy spirit.

I can't eat seven bowls, but I feel the breeze blowing in my armpits.

Translation of works

Drinking a bowl moistens the lips and throat;

two bowls of food broke the lonely and boring mood;

After drinking three bowls, I searched for chapters and sentences, only remembering 5, volumes of words;

After drinking four bowls, I slightly sweated, and all the grievances I experienced in my life spread to my pores.

After drinking five bowls, I feel the muscles and bones of my whole body refreshing.

after six bowls, I feel like I'm on cloud nine, reaching the gods.

I can't eat seven bowls, but I feel that the breeze is blowing slowly under my arms.

Introduction to the Works

Seven Bowls of Tea is a key part of the seven-character ancient poem "Writing, Xie Meng, Advising and Sending New Tea" written by Lu Tong, a poet in Tang Dynasty, when he was living in seclusion in tea fairy Valley Tea Fairy Spring in Shaoshi Mountain, which wrote a wonderful artistic conception of drinking new tea and was widely praised.

Creation background

There are fifty-five eye springs in Qinyuan Scenic Area of Henan Province. The Peach Blossom Island in the West Lake is surrounded by water, surrounded by hundreds of bamboos, and there is a spring under the island, which gushes from the side of the arch bridge that enters the island, surges several feet high and falls into the Quanzu River. Its water quality is clear and sweet, and it was called Peach Blossom Spring in the old days.

Qinyuan in the middle Tang Dynasty has become a leisure place and a cultural center for banquets and tours for bureaucrats and literati in Hedong, Henan and Hanoi.

Lu Tong, (about 795-835) Yuchuanzi, who lives in Sili Village, Jiyuan, Hanoi, is a direct descendant of Lu Zhaolin, one of the "four outstanding men in the early Tang Dynasty". Although he was born in a noble family, his family was very poor. He was withdrawn in honest and frank, indifferent to fame and fortune, especially disgusted with the evils of officialdom, did not enter the scientific research, lived in seclusion in Shan Ye, and studied hard. Not seduced by high officials and generous salaries, he refused his official career and was famous for his poor Geng Jie. The imperial court heard about Lu Tong's talent, and twice asked him to be a doctor of advice (five official positions), but he hated the imperial eunuch's autocratic power and despised the dirty officialdom, and refused to accept orders. As he said in his poem "Winter", "I don't know the son of heaven above, and I don't know the princes below." ("Complete Tang Poetry" Volume 588 "Poems of Lu Tong"). In particular, Han Yu loved Lu Tong's talent and noble moral integrity, and helped Lu Tong from time to time when he was in Henan. Therefore, Lu Tong mixed with Han Yu, Zhang Ji, Meng Jiao and Jia Dao all his life, and became an important figure of Han Meng Poetry School in Tang Dynasty, and then became the "tea fairy" of China.

Qinyuan is located in Xuliang Town, Bo 'ai County, Shanwangzhuang Town, Qinyang City, and wulongkou Town and Jiuligou Town, Jiyuan City, with a total length of more than 3 kilometers, which is the most beautiful and story-telling scenic zone at the foot of South Taihang Mountain. Lu Tong, who is dissatisfied with the times but scares himself, often invites friends to visit and drink in this area. Therefore, the Lu Tong tea table in Jiuligou remains, and the stories of "Han Tea", "Lu Quan" and "Seven Bowls of Tea Songs" in Qinyuan have been passed down to this day.

In the fourth year of Tang Yuanhe, Han Yu, who lives in Mengzhou, Hanoi, and Lu Tong, who lives in Jiyuan, Hanoi, lived in Qinyuan, Hanoi. They sat and drank with the geisha, sang and danced for a while, and then called the maid to serve tea. In the Tang Dynasty, Hanoi people only drank local chrysanthemum tea and Dongling tea. Although Lu Tong is also a native of Hanoi, he is, after all, the "tea fairy", and Longjing and Maojian tea are all used. Therefore, although chrysanthemum tea is pure and sweet, it lacks the beauty of austere, so it is greatly unhappy. Han Yu is a frequent visitor to move bamboo here, and he knows bamboo plants very well, so he took Lu Tong to pick some bamboo skewers in the bamboo forest and suggested that he make tea and try it. As a result, the bamboo skewers were not brewed, and the tea brewed was bitter and not fragrant enough. Lu Tong was very upset. Moments later, Lu Tong suddenly suggested going out to see the spring, but Han Yu didn't understand its meaning and followed. See Lu Tong every spring, holding water to drink, as a result, 55 spring after watching, belly bulging, make Han Yu laugh. Later, Lu Tong asked the maid to fill the peach blossom spring water, cook it again, and let Han Yu drink it. After Han Yupin tasted it, he suddenly understood what it meant. He said, "Sweet and bitter, elegant and elegant, with a unique taste, good tea, good tea!" It turns out that the pharmacology of bamboo skewers is to promote fluid production and blood circulation, clear away heat and fire, and detoxify the lung. Coupled with the sweetness of peach blossom spring and the medicinal reaction of mineral components, bamboo skewer tea becomes soft, clear the heart, benefit the spleen and nourish the mind, and is indeed a good drink.

In the days to come, Han and Lu often invited friends such as Zhang Ji, Meng Jiao and Jia Dao to Taohuaquan for many times to cook and drink, chanting songs and lyrics, leaving many anecdotes and poems.

In the sixth year of Tang Yuanhe, Lu Tong received tea from his friend Meng Jian, a doctor who advised him, and invited Han Yu, Jia Dao and others to make drinks in Taohua Spring, and the famous "Seven Bowls of Tea Songs" came into being. Lu Tong's tea songs express the feeling of drinking tea, which is not only the appetite, but also the pharmacology and efficacy of "bamboo skewer tea", which wakes up the mind, benefits the body, purifies the soul, stimulates literary thinking, condenses everything, and creates a wonderful realm.

Appreciation of the Works

Seven Bowls of Tea Songs is the third part and the most wonderful part of "Writing a Pen, Xie Meng, Advising and Sending New Tea". It writes out the wonderful artistic conception of drinking new tea: the first bowl of throat is moist, and the second bowl helps people get rid of loneliness; The third bowl began to think repeatedly, and there was only Tao in my heart; In the fourth bowl, all the grievances in my life can be thrown to the outside of the cloud nine, expressing the extraordinary generosity of tea people; By the time I drank the seventh bowl, there was wind in my armpits, and I wanted to go home by the breeze to Penglai Mountain, a fairyland on earth. A cup of green tea will make the poet moisten his throat, get rid of annoyance, splash ink, and give birth to a beautiful environment of becoming immortal. Write about the beauty of tea. For him, tea is not just a kind of drink. It seems that tea has created a vast spiritual world for him, which has raised drinking tea to an extraordinary level. Concentrated on drinking tea can forget the secular, throw away fame and fortune, and become immortal.
