Taoist Hongjun is the super BOSS in "The Romance of the Gods", the absolute boss, superior to all the characters.
However, Hongjun is an original character in Fengshen and has no trace in other mythological systems. In this case, his status and strength have no reference coordinates. Both are great ancient gods. How does Hongjun compare with Pangu in terms of status and strength?
Although Pangu did not appear in "The Romance of the Gods", he was mentioned several times. We can infer the comparison between Hongjun and Pangu based on the information revealed in "The Romance of the Gods".
To explore the origin of Hongjun, we can first find clues from the original poem.
"Beyond the Xuanhuang of heaven and earth, I shall be the leader of the teachings. Pangu gave birth to Tai Chi, and the two rituals and four images followed. One teaching passed down to three friends, and the two teachings explained and divided. The leader of the Xuanmen capital, one Qi transformed into Hongjun."
The "heaven and earth are dark and yellow" in the poem is the origin of the earth and the universe and the movement of the sun, moon and stars as understood by the ancients. This word comes from the "Book of Changes", which is a book of ancient Chinese traditional culture. The root of the family, local Taoism, is certainly no exception. Hongjun's status transcends the realm of heaven and earth, and is obviously at the level of the creator of the universe. If you look at it this way, according to the myth of the creation of the world, Pangu is still a figure within heaven and earth, which is one level lower than Hongjun.
