The Origin of Mulan Boxing

Origin of Boxing School

In the early 197s, in the morning exercise team in Shanghai Jing 'an Park, a unique form of fitness gradually attracted people's attention. Accompanied by beautiful Chinese folk music, female bodybuilders are as light as swallows and graceful in posture, and their strokes and styles are all reminiscent of the graceful charm portrayed in Dunhuang murals-this is the beginning of Mulan Boxing, which was still called "Magnolia Boxing" at that time.

At first, Yang Wendi, a Shanghai folk boxer, evolved and created this boxing style from some routines of the Kongtong School. At first, she only practiced it alone in Jing 'an Park in Shanghai every morning. Unexpectedly, after a long time, it aroused the interest of morning exercisers, especially female morning exercisers, and asked them what boxing style it was. At that time, Ms. Yang modestly thought that her own flower boxing was just some fur, and she added some ideas and made some adaptations. It was not an authentic flower boxing, so she named it after the ancient heroine Mulan, and "Magnolia Boxing" was born. Perhaps the routine of Magnolia Boxing is "like dancing like martial arts", with softness and rigidity, and there is no danger of hurting the bones. Therefore, it was quite popular among young and middle-aged women at that time, and people came to "learn from the teacher" in an endless stream. Ms. Yang received many apprentices, the most famous of which was undoubtedly the seven disciples who were later called "Seven Fairies", and they were also the first batch of direct disciples of Ms. Yang.

After the death of Ms. Yang Wendi, many of her disciples followed the teacher's teachings and spread around, and spontaneously formed folk schools: Wang style (Wang Qian 'e), Zhu Wenjian (Zhu Wenjian), Ying style (Ying Mei Fong), Shi style (Shi Huihe) and Ling style (Ling Jianda), which made it inevitable that the original magnolia boxing was somewhat deficient, forming an existing style.

Perhaps it is the involvement of some force. After a period of contending but constant disputes, Mulan Boxing finally has a chance to get rid of the narrow framework of various schools and form an elegant, scientific and more artistic system.

in the 198s, Mr. Li Gang, then the chief of public security in the Great World, had a unique insight and acted as a "Bole". He discovered the value of Mulan Boxing when the fashion was in the stage of folk circulation, and he initiated the establishment of the "China Great World Wushu Competition and Exchange Center", and then established the first Mulan Boxing activity organization in China with the approval of superiors. Later, together with the staff, he invited representatives of various schools and people from all walks of life to carry out seminar and compilation activities. Refine and add new connotations to various schools of boxing, thus forming the "China Mulan Boxing" which marks the development of Mulan Boxing to a higher level. Since then, Mulan Boxing has finally got rid of the fate of folk fitness activities scattered in the morning exercise team and turned into an "organized and disciplined" formal institution, with Shanghai World as its "base".

As the founder of "China Mulan Boxing", Li Gang realized that if you want to carry forward Mulan Boxing, it is necessary to establish a complete set of sound systems as a powerful backing for development. So, in his spare time, he hired a group of amateur and part-time senior teachers to compile books collectively. After some careful planning, conception and creation, China Mulan Boxing formed a scientific system of twelve basic routines, ten additional routines, ten excellent performance routines and six simplified routines. From the name of the routine to the boxing spectrum, from the form of expression to the pattern of the routine, from the use of props and music selection, a series of positioning have been made. As a result, Mulan Boxing began to flourish: in 1992, it was approved by the relevant state departments to make the world's first Mulan Boxing science and education film; In April 1993, Shanghai Great World Mulan Boxing Art Institute was established through registration. In 1996, it was selected as the first batch of national fitness projects by ten ministries and commissions of the Central Committee (Volume I of Collection of Chinese Physical Fitness Methods); In July 1994, the National Wushu Association announced that "Mulan Boxing is the 13th new boxing in China Wushu". In April 1998, the National Sports Center introduced three prescribed routines of Mulan Boxing: fist, fan and sword. Since then, Mulan Boxing has been included in one of the martial arts competitions in every sports meeting.

Huajia Boxing is a martial art of Kongtong School, which spread among the people in Shanghai in the last century. Ms. Yang Wendi, who is widely recognized as the pioneer of Mulan Boxing, established the earliest prototype of Mulan Boxing on the basis of Huajia Boxing.

It's interesting that where did Ms. Yang learn Hua Jia Quan? In all the information about Mulan Boxing, this is always a mystery. Some people say that Ms. Yang learned it from a mysterious Jianghu expert. There is a saying that the mysterious master is actually Yan Feixia, the head of the Kongtong School.

It was mentioned in Zhang Yuanxia's book "The Secret of My Family's Kung Fu" that there is indeed such a mysterious master, and he is well-known in the Shanghai Flower Boxing Circle. However, for some reason, the name of this master is no longer mentioned by people with the passage of time. On the contrary, "Magnolia Boxing" has grown stronger and stronger through the unremitting efforts of Ms. Yang and her disciples.
