Don't miss each other for a long time What do you mean by the height of kudzu five clouds?

It means: after leaving, I miss you infinitely in a place far away from smoke and water. This yearning, like calamus in the courtyard, blooms as high as Xiangyun in the sky.

This seven-character poem comes from the Tang Dynasty poet Yuan Zhen's "Send to Xue Tao"

Original poem

Give it to Xue Tao.

Jinjiang is beautiful because of Emei, which reminds people of Wen Jun and Xue Tao.

Words steal parrot's tongue, articles get chicken hair.

Many poets stopped writing one after another, and the public wanted to dream of a knife.

After parting, acacia is separated by smoke and water, and cattail flowers are five clouds high.

To annotate ...

Xue Tao: A famous geisha in the middle Tang Dynasty.

Jinjiang: It's in the south of Chengdu, Sichuan.

Smooth and delicate.

Emei Mountain: Emei Mountain is in the southwest of Emei County, Sichuan Province. These are all used to refer to Sichuan.

Fantasy: calling, producing.

Wen Jun: Zhuo Wenjun, a native of the Western Han Dynasty, is beautiful and versatile. I admire Sima Xiangru's talent and eloped with him. This is the hero of the eternal romantic story.

Stealing parrot tongue skillfully: the metaphor is sharp and eloquent. Parrots were considered as talking birds in ancient times.

Phoenix hair: more beautiful than literary talent.

One by one: many appearances.

Speaker: literati, poet.

Stop writing: It means that most scholars stop writing because they think they are inferior to Xue Tao.

Dream Knife: When I dreamed of Daozhou, I thought of Shu as an official.

Smoke and water: generally refers to wind, smoke and mountains and rivers.

Acorus calamus: grass name, fragrant, born by the water.

Five clouds: Xiangyun, Ruiyun. I thought fairies lived there.

Jinjiang is smooth and delicate, and Emei Mountain is beautiful, so talented women like Zhuo Wenjun and Xue Tao have changed. Clever words are like stealing a parrot's tongue, and eloquent words. Gorgeous articles are like sharing the feathers of a phoenix, and the literary talent is gorgeous. People who are good at literary writing stop writing because they think they are not as good as Xue Tao, and governors all want to go to Shu to be Wang Jun's dream knife for promotion. After parting, I miss you infinitely far away, far away between smoke and water, as prosperous as calamus in the courtyard and as high as Xiangyun in the horizon.

Extended data:

Yuan Zhen came to Shu in March of the fourth year of Yuanhe (809), when he was just thirty years old and Xue Tao was forty-one. Both of them are famous for their poems, and Xue Tao was once a famous musician. Yuan Zhen, a romantic genius, naturally won't miss the chance to meet Xue Tao, so they stayed together for three months. Three months later, he left Shu and abandoned Xue Tao. Although Xue Tao still can't forget Yuan Zhen, Yuan Zhen regards her as a confidante, and this poem is a reply to Xue Tao.

"Jinjiang is beautiful in Emei, reminiscent of Wen Jun and Xue Tao", saying that Xue Tao was born in famous mountains and rivers, and taking Zhuo Wenjun as an analogy. The author skillfully uses praise words such as "satiny" and "show". The next two couplets, which are very literary, are about words and sentences. People who are good at writing ci stopped writing, and the princes felt ashamed. And the last two sentences, "After parting, acacia is separated by smoke and water, and calamus blooms five clouds high", show that it still contains the author's deep nostalgia. "Five clouds bloom in calamus", which is the melancholy mood of missing Xue Tao and missing each other.
