The person who lights the lamp

Article/Chu Yun Tinghe

During the summer vacation, I recommended some modern poems and ancient poems for students to read and accumulate. On the back-to-school day, the reading assignments were reviewed. It was discovered that a dozen students did not recite Stevenson's poem "The Lamplighter". When asked why, they all said: I feel that this poem is a bit long, it is colloquial, and it is not too big. I couldn't help laughing after hearing this. So, I asked them: Do you still have an impression of the book "Treasure Island"? The children nodded. "Stevenson is the author of Treasure Island." I laughed. The children's eyes widened after hearing this.

Today is the first day of the new semester. After the school opening ceremony, my children and I enjoyed "The Lamplighter" together. Naturally, the dozen or so classmates can already recite it. Feedback said that after reading it slowly, the poem was quite touching.

The Lamplighter (Stevenson)

The refreshments are almost ready and the sun has set

At this time, you can see Li Li walking through the window Beside

Every night, at tea time, before you had sat down

Lily came with a lantern and a ladder to light the street lamp

Tom Willing to be a driver, Maria wants to sail

My father is a banker, he can be very rich

But when I grow up, let me choose a career

Li Lihe, I am willing to go on night patrol with you and light up the street lamps

As long as there are street lamps in front of our door, we will be happy

< p> Li Li lit many lamps, and lit another one at the door of my house

Take the lantern and ladder in your hand, don’t be busy walking

Li Li, look tonight Take a look at this child and nod to him

Stevenson's poem has a strong narrative character, looking at the warmth of life from a child's perspective: Lilly is a lamplighter, he repeats it every day By lighting up street lights, we bring light to our surroundings. The "I" in the article is a young boy who has his own ideals and fantasies, which is to light up the street lights with Li Li when he grows up. A very tender poem, speaking lightly and yearning gently, "I" hope that my ideal can be realized. This ideal is ordinary and noble. The whole poem is easy to understand and there is no accumulation of complicated images. "Lighting up a lamp" is the only image. If we read each word immersedly, we will understand the profound meaning of "lighting up a lamp": lighting up a lamp means lighting up the hearts of others. In life, ordinary people like you, me, and him can all be lamplighters, light the lamps in their hearts, and implant depth and warmth into the hearts of others. Then life will always have light and warmth.

I told the children that I would like to be a lamplighter. They smiled and said, you are just a lamplighter. hehe. I would like to be like Li Li, lighting up the street lights every night, so that every teenager can have expectations and nourishment.
