The third should be Goethe. Have you seen his Faust? It's a discussion about spirit, which is very philosophical, so I don't quite understand it.
I like Tolstoy very much, but I think if I only rank third, Tolstoy may not be ranked, or should be tied for third place.
So Dante, then Shakespeare, then Goethe, then Kafka. Each of them is across the times, raising literature to a higher level and bringing literature into a new realm.
If19th century realism peak, then Balzac and Tolstoy, no one can surpass it.
