The Huang Chao uprising was massive. How did Huang Chao die later?

Huang Chao was the leader of the peasant uprising in the late Tang Dynasty. He was born in a salt merchant family and has been a poet since he was a child. Strangely, however, Huang Chao took part in the imperial examination and failed many times. Later, there was a drought in Guanzhong, and Wang Xianzhi launched a peasant uprising, in which Huang Chao participated.

After Wang Xianzhi's death, Huang Chao was elected king, and Huang Chao led the army to capture Luoyang and Chang 'an and became emperor himself. Soon, however, Huang Chao was suppressed by the Tang Dynasty, and Huang Chao was defeated and killed.

There are several theories about Huang Chao's death, which one is the most reliable? How did Huang Chao die?

Huang Chao is a rare genius. He can write poetry at the age of five. Moreover, according to historical records, Huang Chao is good at riding and shooting, and good at fencing. Thus, Huang Chao is an unusual person.

The Biography of Huang Chao in the New Tang Dynasty records that he is good at fencing, riding and shooting, and has little knowledge of the secretary.

The Complete Tang Poem records three poems by Huang Chao, among which Huang Chao's most famous poems are Titing Chrysanthemum and Giving Chrysanthemum to the Last, including? Fragrant array permeates Chang 'an, and golden flowers are everywhere? That sentence, written really well, but, I don't know why, he failed in the imperial examination, but it also brought great disaster to the Tang Dynasty.

In the first year of Ganfu (874), there were floods and droughts all over the country, and the people had no food, so the court did nothing. As a result, Wang Xianzhi launched a peasant uprising, rose up and attacked the state and occupied the county, with a huge momentum.

In June of the second year of Ganfu (875), Huang Chao, his sons and nephews Huang Cun, Huang Ye and his nephew assembled more than a thousand people to respond to the rebels. After Wang Xianzhi was killed, they elected Huang Chao as the Yellow Emperor and continued to fight, occupying Luoyang and Chang 'an.

On December 12th, the first year of Guangming (880), Huang Chao entered Taiqing Palace. The next day, in the Hanyuan Palace, that is, the position and title of the emperor? Daqi? , built a church, and slaughtered hundreds of officials of the imperial clan in the Tang Dynasty.

Huang Chao named his wife as the queen, Jean-Claude, Zhao Zhang, Cui Ao and Yang Xigu as the four phases, and Meng Kai and Gaihong as the servants of Shangshu. Zheng is Cheng in the suggestion, Fei Chuangu is the Tang Dynasty envoy, Li Yi, Huang Li and Shang Ru are the ministers, Jing, Xu Jian and Liu Tang are the ordnance envoys, Zhu Wen, Zhang Yan, Peng Zan are the guards, Fang Te is the remonstrator, and Zhang Zhi is the army commander.

In addition, Huang Chao also ordered that all Tang officials above the third grade should be suspended and those below the fourth grade should be reinstated.

In this way, Huang Chao changed from a salt merchant to an emperor, a world of difference.

In September of the second year of Zhonghe (882), Zhu Wen killed Zhang Jian, the supervisor of Huang Chao, and betrayed Huang Chao to surrender to the Tang Dynasty.

Soon, under the fierce attack of Tang Dynasty generals Li Keyong and Wang Chongrong, Huang Chao was defeated and died in the Wolf Tiger Valley (southwest of Laiwu, Shandong) on June 15th, in the fourth year of Zhonghe (884).

There are several theories about Huang Chao's death.

First, Huang Chao committed suicide.

Huang Chao Biography of the New Tang Dynasty records that when Huang Chao defeated Wolf Tiger Valley, he said to his nephew Lin Yan: You can get wealth by giving my head to the Tang Dynasty! Lin Yan couldn't bear to kill Huang Chao, so Huang Chao committed suicide.

Second, Huang Chao was killed by his nephew.

Huang Chao Biography of Old Tang Dynasty records that Huang Chao led his troops into Mount Tai and went to the Valley of Wolves and Tigers. Huang Chao's nephew Lin Yan beheaded Huang Chao and his second brother Huang Ye.

Thirdly, he was killed by Jean Valjean.

According to the Dunhuang document Suzhou Report, Huang Chao, a grass thief, was killed by Shang Rang and defected to Xichuan. In May of the fourth year of Zhonghe (884), Huang Chao was raided by Shatuo cavalry in Zhongmou West, Henan Province, killing more than 10,000 people. At this critical juncture, Jean-Jean led ten thousand people to surrender to Tang Ting.

Cui Zhiyuan, a scholar in the Tang Dynasty, recorded in "Returning to Bi Yuan for Farming" that Shi Pu, a general of the Tang Dynasty, lured the generals of the Huang Chao Uprising Army to surrender and killed Huang Chao.

Fourth, becoming a monk.

Liu Magazine, written by Liu in the Song Dynasty, records that there was a monk named Cuiwei Zen Master in the Five Dynasties, and this person was Huang Chao.

Zhang Duan Yi recorded in Gui Er Ji: Huang Chao is his later disciple, in charge of the big temple, and the jungle emphasizes Zen. In silence, he pointed to the word Huang Chao at his feet.

Gu Tao recorded in The Wandering Tales of the Five Dynasties that Huang Chao escaped from prison and later wished to be a pagoda.

Regarding the above statement, I personally prefer the second one. Seeing that Huang Chao was dying, Lin Yan killed Huang Chao. Finally, Lin Yan was killed by the Shatuo people, who then presented the heads of Huang Chao and Lin Yan to the court.
