The Main Contents of Andersen's Grandmother

Main content:

Grandma is very old. She has an old book with a pressed rose in it. When my grandmother's tears fell on the rose, the rose came back to life and filled the whole room with fragrance. My grandmother became young again and became a lovely girl. A man sat beside her and gave her a rose.

Now, my grandmother has passed away. On the grave near the wall of the churchyard, they planted a rose tree, and soon it was full of roses. Our eyes will see our dear grandmother again, young and beautiful, just as she kissed the bright red rose that has now turned to dust in the cemetery for the first time.

Extended information

This short story reads like a prose poem, full of beautiful and slightly sad memories about an ordinary person. In fact, it is also a poem.

Andersen said in his notes: "After I finished writing Grandma, someone pointed out to me that my story is very similar to a poem written by the German poet Le Nao. Later, I found that poem to read, and it was really similar.

when this poem was first published, I quoted this little poem as an introduction to show that I know that the two works are similar, but I don't think I should destroy my own work because of it. " This work was first published in a Norwegian poetry and art album called Freya under the title of A Story, and was later changed to Grandmother when it was collected.
