Before Du Fu, there were very few narrative poems written by literati, but Du Fu used a large number of narrative techniques in his poems, writing about current events in five or seven character ancient style, that is, famous articles about the events. It can be said that narrative skills have reached a high degree of maturity in Du Fu's hands. Specifically, there are the following points:
First, Du Fu is good at making typical artistic generalizations of real life. He is very good at selecting and summarizing typical characters, reflecting the general through the individual. For example, the conversation of the "Pedestrian" in "Military Chariots" tells the similar experiences of tens of thousands of conscripts and garrison soldiers, and "Three Officials" and "Three Farewells" are the best examples of typical generalizations. Du Fu is also good at condensing huge social content into one or two lines of poetry, such as "The wine and meat in Zhumen smells bad, and there are frozen bones on the road", which is very shocking because it is a poem by the poet that summarizes the social reality in a raft-like style. sharp contradiction.
Second, Du Fu's poetic narratives often incorporate strong lyricism. He actually wrote most of the narrative poems as lyrical poems, such as "Three Poems from Qiang Village", which records family affairs in Yanzhou Province, describes the mixture of sorrow and joy when they meet again, and how he meets his family and neighbors in such sorrow and joy, and the kind of sadness. , sympathy, and helplessness are all intertwined. It can be said that Du Fu integrated objective and true narrative with subjective and strong lyricism. It is difficult to distinguish whether some of his poems are lyrical or narrative. Sometimes it is mixed with discussion, integrating lyricism, narrative, and discussion, both in long and short stories, with the layout of fu, the syntax of prose, and the creation of artistic conception of lyric poetry. Du Fu's poetry describes current events, reflects the true picture of history, and expresses his own feelings. This is unprecedented in the history of Chinese poetry. It is a change in the way poetry is expressed, and it is what makes Du Fu's poetry different from the poetry of the Tang Dynasty. .
Third, the use of dialogue and the personalization of character language. In order to write the characters vividly, Du Fu absorbed the creative experience of Han Dynasty Yuefu, often using dialogue or individual characters, and taking into account the individuality of the characters' language. There are many such works, such as "Wedding Farewell", which is about a bride's monologue, which makes us feel as if we are seeing her and hearing her voice.
Fourth, use common sayings. This is a major feature of Du Shi's language. Du Fu mostly used common sayings in his lyrical modern-style poems, but in his narrative ancient-style poems, they were richer and the relationships were more important. Because many of these narrative poems are written about people's lives, the use of some common sayings can increase the authenticity and intimacy of the poems, and help highlight the personality of the characters and the individuality of the language. For example, it is the same action to call his wife. In the poem "The King Yidong Drinks and Presents a Song to Him After Sickness", Du Fu uses "calling his wife out of the house to have a meal in person", while in "Suffering Tian's Father to Drink Mud, Mei Yan Zhongcheng", But the common saying "calling a woman to open a big bottle" shows the true character of Tian's father.
Fifth, Du Fu’s poetic narrative. It not only narrates the passage of events, but also focuses on detailed description. These detailed descriptions, whether of people, objects or moods, are carefully depicted to reveal the truth from the details, expand the picture, and lead people into a certain atmosphere and realm. For example, "Northern Expedition" narrates what Feng Xiang saw along the way to his hometown in Pizhou. Through some detailed descriptions, it shows a broad historical picture from one perspective. It is these small descriptions that make the narrative style of Du's poems different from previous narrative poems. It moves from general descriptions to fragments of specific events. Because of the details, it is less exaggerated and more realistic than usual in general descriptions. , and the storytelling has been diluted, while the color of life has been greatly enhanced, as is the case with poems such as "The Troops' Chariots", "Three Poems on the Qiang Village", "Three Officials", and "Three Farewells".
