The poet described the spring scenery of the Spring River he saw on his way south: the spring water was blooming, with peach blossoms on the bank; a cloud of sails, looking around as far as the eye could see, and a forest of maples. The beautiful spring scenery reflects the sorrow and sadness of the poet's southern expedition in his later years, and the joyful scene contrasts with the sadness and multiplies it.
Southern Expedition
Du Fu
Peach blossoms on the spring bank, clouds sailing through the maple forest.
Grow in secret and avoid the ground, and stay far away.
Old and sick, the sun marches to the south, but your kindness looks north to your heart.
I have been suffering for hundreds of years, but I have never found a close friend.
Note: This poem was written by Du Fu on his way from Yueyang to Changsha in the spring of the fourth year of the Dali calendar (769). Du Fu died a year later.
