Translation:
Meng Jiao's poems focus on poverty until death do us part. He is in a vast land, but he is imprisoned in the song of poverty, really like a tired prisoner in the poem. Han Yu's works will remain immortal. Compared with Meng Jiao, one is like being in a 100-foot building, and the other is like being underground.
Analysis:
This poem is a comment on Meng Jiao. Yuan Haowen thinks that he can't compare with Han Yu's poems at all. Meng Jiao and Han Yu are both representatives of the Middle Tang School, but they are different. Meng Jiao, who lived in poverty and suffering, suffered from a miserable life. He devoted his life to poetry creation and was famous for his bitter songs. Meng Jiao's talent is not as great as Han Yuxiong's, and his vision is limited to a certain extent by his poor life experience, which makes his strange poetry style biased towards personal poverty, illness, hunger and cold, full of cold and bitter images, and is called "suburban cold". Although Han Yu's poems have strange images, they are bold and bold, vigorous and hearty. Si Kongtu said that he "drives the momentum, lifts thunder and carries electricity, and soars between heaven and earth."
