What are the characteristics of Han Yuefu?

Han Yuefu emphasized "choosing beauty instead of polishing", so "good quality, shallow depth, near distance" (Hu Yinglin's Poems Volume I) became its natural nature. Both the miscellaneous poems and five-character poems in Han Yuefu indicate that the form of poetry has been more fully developed, which laid the foundation for the prosperity of miscellaneous poems and five-character poems in later generations. The most striking and basic artistic feature of Han Yuefu is narrative. It depicts many images and events with distinctive personalities and complete plots, which indicates that narrative poetry has entered a more mature stage. For example, Peacock Flying Southeast vividly depicts a series of vivid images such as Liu Lanzhi, Jiao Zhongqing, Jiao Mu, Liu Mu and Liu Xiong in various ways, and describes a series of vivid plots such as divorce, running away, refusing marriage, remarriage and double suicide with his wife, which is worthy of being a masterpiece of realistic narrative. If we consider the lack of narrative poetry in Han (ethnic) literature and the fact that narrative poetry has stagnated since Han (generation), then this artistic achievement of Han Yuefu is very precious.
