The Character Evaluation of The Fairy Queen

As early as 1569, Spencer translated the poems of the French poet Du Baylor and the poems of the Italian poet Petrarch through French. His earliest poem "The Shepherd's Calendar" was written in imitation of the ancient pastoral poem of the ancient Roman poet Virgil.

Spencer's important work is The Fairy Queen. His poems are beautiful in dictionary, delicate in emotion, rigorous in meter and beautiful, which have a far-reaching influence on later English poets, including Milton, Marlowe, Shelley and Keats, and are called "poets among poets" by later generations.

In terms of ideological content, Spencer has not only humanist's love for life, but also neo-Platonism's mysterious thought, as well as Puritan's ethical and religious concepts and strong bourgeois patriotism. He has always been willing to explore the form of poetry. In the poem Fairy Descent, he found a metrical form suitable for long poems, which is called "Spencer Poetry Festival" and has been used by Byron and Shelley ever since. Because of his kung fu, he was called "a poet among poets" by later generations. Spencer had a profound influence on later English poets (including Milton) in thought, language and poetic art. He mainly inspired Marlowe and perfected the ten-syllable lines in blank poems. He also influenced the romantic poets Thomson and Gray in the early18th century and Shelley and Keats in the19th century.
