The Great Wall of Wan Li is still there today, but there is no Qin Shihuang. "Many people know this sentence in the movie" The Devil Comes ". In fact, this sentence is not original by the film writer, but comes from an allusion called "Six Feet Lane". The exact words are
"The Great Wall of Wan Li is still there today, and Qin Shihuang is not seen."
Liuchi Lane is now located in Tongcheng City, Anhui Province. According to Tongcheng County Records, during the reign of Emperor Kangxi, the scholar of Wenhua Temple and the minister of rites had a dispute with the neighbor Wu family because of the homestead problem, and their families flew to the capital to say hello to "settle" the Wu family. What Zhang Ying returned to her family was a poem. The poem is as follows: "A thousand miles of books are just walls, why not let them be three feet?" The Great Wall of Wan Li is still there today, but I haven't seen Qin Shihuang. "The family saw the book and took the initiative to give in three feet on the disputed line and built a wall. Wu, a neighbor, was also deeply moved. He retired three feet to build a house and set up a courtyard, so there was a six-foot wide alley between the walls of two families. This is the origin of Liuchi Lane. Although the protagonist of this story has different versions, the content is roughly the same. )
However, "The Great Wall of Wan Li is still there today, and Qin Shihuang is not seen." This poem is famous for Chairman Mao. Sino-Soviet relations deteriorated 1956. When Chairman Mao met with the Soviet ambassador to China Yevgeny, he skillfully quoted the second half of this poem to talk about Sino-Soviet relations and express that things between the two countries should be modest and equal. On August 4, 2005, at the plenary meeting of the fourth round of six-party talks on the Korean nuclear issue, Wu Dawei, head of the China delegation, also quoted this poem when presiding over the meeting, implying mutual benefit and mutual accommodation among the six parties and equal consultation.
Obviously, the meaning of this poem is to be tolerant and patient, treat others equally and turn enemies into friends. So why did the screenwriter of the movie "The Devil Comes" ask Liu Ye to say this sentence?
In the movie, Ma Dasan finds Liu Ye under the leadership of his fourth cousin's brother-in-law, hoping that he can help kill the Japanese greenhouse and translator Dong. At that time, Ma Dasan said to Liu Ye, "Liu Ye, I don't have any beans. I will ... kowtow to you for the whole village. " Sitting in the bathtub, Liu Ye closed his eyes and waved his hand, as if to himself: "The Great Wall of Wan Li is still there today, but I didn't see Qin Shihuang."
I think the director Jiang Wen here just wants to tell the audience that Mr. Liu won't help Mr. Ma realize his wish, he just wants to make peace. His subtext is "don't kill if you can." Judging from the development of the later story, Liu Ye, the so-called "Eight Ministers" who killed China people, did not kill Japanese devils and translators. That is to say, China people are capable of killing their own people, but they can't kill the Japanese.
In fact, the vast majority of villagers in "The Devil Comes", no matter whether they are two necks or eight aunts, all reflect this attitude of keeping things quiet, which leads to the final tragedy. The only rebel in the movie is the old man who "strangled them both with one hand and buried them with the other". Ironically, he is a disabled person, who can only talk on the kang but can't act.
As for why the "Great Wall of Wan Li" was changed to "Great Wall of Wan Li", it may be that the author made a mistake, or it may be that the author deliberately made a negative interpretation of this poem, so in order to distinguish the original intention, it is different from the original poem.
The story of Liuchi Lane is only recently known to me. If you don't understand this story, you can't understand this sentence that Liu Ye said, and you can't understand this sentence. It can be said that I can't understand the movie "The Devil Comes". So in theory, the more people know, the more thorough they will be. It's not that simple to fully understand a movie.
