What is a hanging poem?

That is, the meaning of "hanging poems" is the general name of the seven long poems in the period of Arab ignorance. According to records, before Islam came into being, Arabs made a pilgrimage to Mecca every year, and held fair trade activities and poetry competitions in Okaz near Mecca. After the meeting, the outstanding works of "Ode to Islam" were selected by recognized poets, copied on fine linen with golden water, and hung on the city wall for people to read and appreciate, so they were called "hanging poems" or "Jin Shi". These seven poems handed down from generation to generation are regarded as the representative works of Arabic poetry in the period of ignorance, and their contents and forms are basically mature. Works often begin with poets recalling the ruins and expressing their love for their lovers, describing deserts, camels, antelopes and so on. And promote the Arab philosophy of life and lofty ideals. From the formal point of view, these seven poems are all neat metrical poems, which have great influence on later poems in rhythm. Among the seven poets, the most important one is Antara Ben Shedad. His poems are only about 1500 lines, which best embodies the character of freedom, courage, generosity and perseverance of Arabian desert knights.
