Dai Wangshu's Creative Style

The lingering sadness and beauty

Dai Wangshu was a representative poet of modernism in 1930s. His poetry has experienced a development process in artistic creation. In his early days, he combined China's poetic style with western poetic style, with Ye Shengtao as the representative, praising it as "opening a new era for the bottom syllable of new poetry". The second period is the maturity of Dai Wangshu's poetic art. Starting from this, he gradually matured and formed a simple and cordial poetic style. However, due to artistic liberalism and personal pain, he failed to get out of his personal world. The last period is a new turning point in Dai Wangshu's poetic style. After the outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Dai Wangshu went to Hong Kong to engage in anti-Japanese literary activities, but was unfortunately arrested and imprisoned, and wrote a poem to show national integrity and express his sincere love for the troubled motherland.
