Seven unique poems about reeds in late autumn:
1. The immediate situation in Jiangcun
Sikong Shu? [Tang Dynasty]
It doesn’t matter if you return from fishing On the boat, Jiangcun is sleeping with the moon setting.
Even if the wind blows away all night, it is only by the shallow water of reed flowers.
Translation:
When the fisherman returned from fishing at night, the moon was already setting in the west. He happened to be sleeping peacefully and was too lazy to tie the rope and let it drift in the wind.
Even if the wind blows all night, the boat will not drift far, and will only stop at the shallow water bank of the reed beach.
2. Evening view of Jiangcun
Dai Fushi? [Song Dynasty]
The setting sun shines on the flat sand at the head of the river, and the bank of the fishing boat pavilion is sloping when the tide recedes.
A pair of white birds stand near the water. When they see people, they get up and enter the reed flowers.
Translation:
The sunset over the river covers the beach on the river. The tide was out and the fishing boat was leaning against the shore.
A pair of white waterbirds stopped by the river. When he smelled someone coming, he flew into the reeds alertly.
3. Two poems about Jinling Station
Wen Tianxiang? [Song Dynasty]
The grass leaves the palace and turns to the sunset, where can the solitary cloud wander?
The scenery of the mountains and rivers remains the same, but the people in the city have mostly changed.
The ground is full of reed flowers and I am old, who are the swallows flying next to in my old home?
I bid farewell to Jiangnan Road from now on, turning into a cuckoo and returning with blood.
Translation:
In the palace covered by weeds under the sunset, where is your destination?
The great rivers and mountains of the motherland are no different from before, but the people have become subjects of foreign rule.
The reed flowers all over the ground have aged like me, the people have been displaced, and the country has perished.
Now I have to leave this familiar old place. From now on, there is no hope of returning south. Let my soul return after my death!
4. Su Yujia
Guo Zhen? [Song Dynasty]
For several generations, they have lived near the end of the sea, with two or three houses covered with reeds.
I laughed in front of the lamp and said that on the night of return, the bright moon would be sent home on the boat.
Translation:
Having lived by the sea for generations, the few huts are covered with snow-white reed flowers.
Although it is hard to fish at sea during the day, when you return home at night, you will be greeted by the bright blue sky and the sound of the ocean waves. It is really happy and comfortable.
5. A gift to the fisherman
Du Mu? [Tang Dynasty]
The reeds are still fishing in the deep lake, and the moon is misting in the evening for dozens of springs.
I say that I am alone in a boat by the cold water, and I have never met a solitary person.
Translation:
Among the reeds and on the shore of Fukasawa, an old man is fishing quietly. This old man fishing has experienced dozens of spring and autumn smokes. Moonlight.
He said that he had never met a sober person like Qu Yuan in decades on a lonely boat or by the cold water.
