Interpretation of 2 Peter 3: 8- 13

Interpretation of 2 Peter 3: 8- 13;

Gradually reduce 3: 8 "Dear friends, one thing you must not forget is that one day is like a thousand years before the Lord, and a thousand years is like one day. 」

Dear friends, don't ignore this: in the eyes of the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day. 」

[Original meaning] "Forgetting" is hidden, unnoticed and deliberately ignored; "Look" (there is no such word in the original text).

[Text Note] "Dear Brothers", the title means: (1) Peter takes love as the starting point and gives an exhortation to the readers of this book; (2) The following (section 8~ 13) is different from the above (section 1~7). The front is to refute the cynicism of the false master about the second coming of the Lord, and here is to encourage believers to look at the second coming of the Lord.

"There is one thing you must not forget." "One thing" means that the Lord has not fulfilled his promise of coming again. "Don't forget" means that we should look at this matter from the perspective of God.

"That is to say, a day is regarded as a thousand years." "Look" does not have the word "look" according to the original text, which means that time is for the Lord; The meaning of "a day is like a thousand years" is as follows: (1) For the Lord, a day is not short, but what he values is what happens in every day; (2) The Lord takes a long-term view of everything that happens to people in each period.

"A thousand years is like a day" is quoted from poem 94, which can be explained as follows: (1) A thousand years are fleeting, and for the Lord, the time will not be too long; (2) How infinite the Lord's patience is. It's been a thousand years, but it's like yesterday.

In short, the two sentences together tell us: (1) There is no question of the length of time in the Lord, only the question of fulfilling his will; (2) The action of the Lord is not limited by time, and he can wait patiently for the cooperation of others; (3) the Lord is not willing to do it, or whether he can do it, but whether the situation of people has reached the right level (that is, at that time).

[Light in the Word] (1) God's method of calculating time is different from ours, so we can't measure God's time according to man's calculation method.

(2) Christians must look at time from God's point of view-neither can we ignore that short day, nor can we ignore the prophecy in the Bible because of "all the year round".

Taper 3: 9 "The Lord's promise has not been fulfilled. Some people think he is procrastinating, but in fact he is not procrastinating, but tolerating you. He doesn't want a person to sink, but wants everyone to repent. 」

"The Lord's promise will never be delayed, just as some people think he is delayed; In fact, he tolerates us (or you) and doesn't want anyone to perish, but wants everyone to repent. 」

[Original meaning] "Not yet reached" (there is no such word in the original text); "Delay" means delay, slow, slow; "forbearance" patience and perseverance; "Sink" perish, lost; "Repent" and change your mind.

[Note] "The promise of the Lord has not been fulfilled", and "the promise of the Lord" refers to the promise of the Lord's return; "Not yet achieved" means that the Lord has not come again.

"Some people think that he is procrastinating", and "procrastination" means "procrastination until fulfillment", which means that he has broken his word or is powerless.

"In fact, it is not procrastination, it is forbearance." "No procrastination" means that the problem is not God. To "tolerate you" means that the problem lies in people. The promise of the Lord's return has not been fulfilled, not because God has changed and deliberately delayed, but because we are not ready for the Lord's return, forcing God to be tolerant and waiting for us to improve ourselves.

"I don't want to sink alone, but I want everyone to repent." "Sink" has two meanings: (1) The unbelieving sinner will sink forever; (2) The situation of believers can't meet the standards of God, and they are temporarily punished by God (1 Cor. 1. 3 15; Peter iv 17~ 18). "Repentance" refers to the change of mind, from the current confusion to the truth (see Jas. 5: 19~20).

[Light of Words] (1) Every moment is an opportunity given by God-be pardoned or condemned, depending on whether you seize the opportunity of God's forgiveness. Once you miss it, it's too late to regret it.

(2) Christians should understand the heart of the Lord and try their best to lead those who have fallen into sin to repent and turn to God before the future of the Lord.

(3) God not only forgives sinners and gives them a chance to repent, but also forgives Christians and gives them a chance to get ready and meet the Lord safely (see section 14).

Gradually decrease by 3: 10 "But the day of the Lord comes like a thief. On that day, the sky will disappear with a loud noise, all tangible things will be swallowed up by fire, and the earth and everything on it will be burned. 」

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. On that day, the sky will disappear with a loud noise, and all the elements will be melted by high temperature. The land and its works will be burned. 」

[Original meaning] "Day", one day; Arrive, come; "Loud noise" is accompanied by a loud noise, a loud noise of surprise, and a roar; "Abolish" the past and cross it; "Tangible" elements and principles; "Fire" is blazing; Melting, dissolving and decomposing.

[Text Note] "But the day of the Lord will come like a thief." "The day of the Lord" refers to the day when the Lord will come again. "Come like a thief" means that the arrival of the Lord comes suddenly when people don't expect it, just like a thief appears when people don't pay attention (see the first five posts).

On that day, the sky will disappear with a loud noise. "That day" here refers to the end of the world brought by the arrival of the Lord. According to other bibles, the second coming of the Lord will not bring the end of the world immediately, and there will be an interval of 1000 years (see the first four16; rev . 20 4 ~ 5); "The sky will disappear with a loud noise." This is the scene where the old sky is gone: (1) The sky will roll up like books and clothes (34: 4; Come12); (2) "Loud noise" refers to the loud noise of surprises when the old sky is rolled up.

"All tangible things will be destroyed by fire", and "tangible things" refers to all substances, which is equivalent to "the earth and its objects" in the next sentence, that is, the earth itself and all objects on the earth (including living and inanimate objects), as well as the air layer around the earth; "Extinguished by fire" means that everything that belongs to matter must be "burned with fire" (see section 7) in order to completely destroy it.

"The earth and everything on it will burn" is equivalent to the previous sentence "tangible"; "It's all going to burn out." God removed all the old methods and stopped using floods (see 2: 5; Gen 9: 1 1), but it was burned by fire.

(1) When will the Lord come again? Since, like a thief, no one can know in advance, there is no need to speculate on the date. This is just a shot in the dark (see Matt. 24: 36).

(2) The scenario described in this section only looks at what will happen from one time end to the other, without giving a clear explanation of the time gap at the other end. Therefore, it should be noted that things described in the same verse in the Bible do not necessarily happen at the same time.

(3) Since all tangible things should be destroyed, Christians should not pay too much attention to tangible material things, but should pursue more intangible spiritual things.

Gradually decrease by 3: 1 1 "Since all this is going to be destroyed like this, how can you be holy and godly?"

Since all this is going to melt in this way, you should pay attention to how to be a man and how to live a holy and godly life.

[Original meaning] the behavior, conduct, manners and lifestyle of "being a man"; "Godliness" means reverence and piety.

[Text Note] "Since these things are to be sold in this way", "these things are" refers to the "land and its things" on which we live today (see section 10); "Since everything has to be sold like this" means that since everything is so unreliable, everything will become empty in an instant, so we should not take these as our goals in life.

"How should you be holy and godly?" "Being human" refers to the whole behavior and lifestyle. How to be holy refers to the degree of living for God; "How to be godly" refers to the degree of living like God.

[Light in the Word] (1) Void is void, and everything on the earth is void, so we should remember the God who made us, fear him and keep his commandments as soon as possible, which is the duty of human beings (reference 12 1 8 13).

(2) The most important thing for Christians is to know what is ephemeral and what is eternal. Life is guided by eternal things, and they devote themselves to pleasing God.

Gradually reduce 3: 12 "I am eager for the day of God to come. On that day, the sky will be melted by fire, and all tangible things will be melted by fire. 」

"Looking forward to and strongly demanding the arrival of God's Day. Because on that day, the heavens will be burned by fire, and all elements will be melted by high temperature. 」

[Original meaning] "Eagerness" means eagerness, eagerness and longing; "Looking up" to expect, wait, count on, expect, pay attention, and pay attention; Melt into liquid.

[Text Note] "Looking forward to the arrival of God's day", "looking forward to" means "accelerating its arrival forever"; "God's Day" has two meanings: (1) broadly refers to "Lord's Day" (see section 10); (2) In a narrow sense, it refers to the day when God is judged on the white throne at the end of the world (see Rev. 20, 1 1), and the interval from the day of the Lord to the day of God is as long as one thousand years (see Rev. 24-6).

Note that Peter sees the end of the world from one end of time, so he confuses "the day of the Lord" with "the day of God". In fact, the day of the Lord is not over yet, so the matter of "being burned out" in section 7~ 12 must be viewed from the perspective of "a thousand years are like one day" (see section 8).

"On that day, the sky was burned by fire." When the day of God came after the Millennium Kingdom, the old days and old places disappeared (see Rev.2011; 2 1No. 1).

"All tangible things must be melted by fire", this sentence repeats section 10 "All tangible things must be melted by fire", and in this process, it is "melted" first and then "melted".

[Light of Words] (1) Christians can accelerate the coming of God's Day by ardently loving God and firmly living a life style that pleases God.

(2) The concerted efforts of all saints to preach the gospel is also a way to accelerate the coming of the Lord (see Mt. 24 14).

(3) Giving up thinking about things on the earth is the premise of eagerly looking forward to the coming of God's day; When we are still looking forward to things on earth, we will not have too much hope for things in heaven (see Col. 3: 2).

Gradually reduced by 3: 13 "But as he promised, we look forward to a new heaven and a new earth where justice can live. 」

But according to his promise, we look forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where we can live honestly. 」

[Original meaning] "hope" (the original is the same word as "looking up" in section 12); "New" and new, unprecedented; Settle down and live a good life.

[Text Note] "But we keep his promise", and the word "Dan" strongly shows that we Christians do not pin our hopes on things that will be destroyed; "We keep his promise" means that we hope for the promise given by God's Word.

"Looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth" and "new heaven and a new earth" refer to another brand-new world (refer to Rev. 2 1: 1) that will exist forever.

"Righteousness resides in it", and "righteousness" means justice and integrity to God and people; "Living in it" is an anthropomorphic description, which means that there is no injustice or evil in eternity (see Rev. 218; 22: 15), by that time, the "righteous Jesus Christ" (Jn. 2: 1) will be completely king, all the residents will be just (entry 62 1), and everything will be in line with God's justice.

(1) in Christ, the old things have passed and become new things (2 Cor. 5 17); In eternity, old days and old places will pass away (see section 10), and new days and new places will exist forever.

(2) In the new heaven and new earth, only righteousness can survive in it-all those who fail to pass the fair judgment of God will be destroyed; All that passed away was justice.

(3) The kingdom of God does not care about eating and drinking, but only about righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 14: 17); If we can live in the reality of the kingdom of God today, we can live in the realization of the kingdom of God in the future.
