Torch Festival has profound folk culture connotation and is called "Carnival of the East". Different ethnic groups hold Torch Festivals at different times, mostly on June 24th of the lunar calendar. The main activities are bullfighting, goat shooting, cockfighting, horse racing, wrestling, song and dance performances, beauty contests and so on. In the new era, the Torch Festival has been endowed with new folk functions and produced new forms.
From July 20th to August 30th, 2023, Liangshan Prefecture will hold the 8th Liangshan Yi Torch Festival and a series of cool summer Liangshan Tour activities. According to the Notice of Liangshan Prefecture People's Government Office on Some Holiday Arrangements in 2023, the Torch Festival will be closed for 7 days from August 10 (June 24th of the lunar calendar) to August 16.
Yi Torch Festival opens;
On the evening of August 10, the 8th Liangshan Yi Torch Festival and the series of activities in Liangshan in 2023 were grandly opened in Torch Square, Xichang City, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province. Passionate August, the long-awaited Liangshan Yi Torch Festival was restarted after 8 years.
That night, in Torch Square, colorful fireworks lit up the night sky, dazzling. In three torch night venues, Chunqi Avenue in Sihe Township, Xichang City and Geze Village in Echi, Hainan Street, enthusiastic torches were lit at the same time.
At the opening ceremony, Yi children took the stage in gorgeous traditional Yi costumes. On the stage decorated with fire lines, there are bright stars and happy waves. The sound of drums is shocking. The vigorous recitation of Yi poetry brought the audience into the long river of history, and the prelude to the theme performance was opened.
The wonderful interpretation of three chapters, welcoming fire, inheriting the Millennium, praising fire, warming Yi countryside, dancing fire and passionate mountains and rivers, has inherited the ancient and heavy essence of Yi civilization and carried forward excellent national cultural traditions. The traditional culture and modern culture of Yi people set off each other and coordinate with each other, showing the spirit of perseverance and hard struggle in Liangshan.
