Many Zen masters used the picture of ten cows to educate Zen disciples and wrote Zen poems for this picture. The famous ones are: (1) Ten Cows Fu by An Shiyuan of Song Dynasty, (2) Ten Cows Fu by Huan Wen of Minghu, and (3) Extraordinary Cows Fu by Meng Qing 'an. They are all included in Volume 1 13 of Chen Xuzang and Volume 32 of Complete Works of Zen.
In addition, in the Dazu stone carving group in Sichuan, there is also a cattle grazing map similar to the Ten Cattle Map. Among them, the picture of herding cattle in the cliff statue of Baodingshan (No.30) is divided into ten groups, namely, no herding, initial adjustment, restraint, looking back, taming, unblocked, free transportation, forgetting each other, taking photos alone and forgetting each other. Each group has a picture and a poem, the picture is a high relief or a round sculpture, and it is named "Ode to Yang Ci's Notary Road". (Lan Jifu)
Guo Anshiyuan's "Ten Niu Fu"
(1) Looking for a cow: I am busy weeding and chasing. The water is vast and the mountains are far away. I am tired and have nowhere to find it, but I listen to the maple trees singing in the evening.
(2) Look at the traces: there are many traces under the forest near the water, but the grass is far away. No matter how deep the mountain is, how can it be hidden in Liaotian's nostrils?
(3) Seeing the sound of Niu Jiao orioles on the branches, the warm wind and the willow blue on the shore, there is nowhere to avoid, and it is difficult to draw a dense head.
(4) Get the cow: I tried my best to get the canal, but my heart was strong and I couldn't get rid of it. Sometimes I go to the plateau and live in the depths of the clouds.
(5) Cattle herding: the whip tip never leaves the body, lest Iraq tread the dust of Egypt, making it pure, harmonious and unrestrained.
(6) Riding an ox to go home: Riding an ox to go home, sending the sunset red with a strong flute, a song is infinite, so why bother to drum your lips and teeth.
(7) Forget the ox to save people: riding an ox leads to a home mountain, and the ox is idle, and the sun is still dreaming, and the whip rope is empty.
(8) People and cows forget each other: the whip tip people and cows are empty, the sky is wide and the letter is difficult to pass, and the red furnace flames compete for snow, so that they can meet their ancestors.
(9) Returning to the source: It takes a lot of effort to return to the source. For example, if you are blind and deaf, you can't see the front of the temple, and the water is red.
(10) Hanging in the ditch with both hands: stumbling into the ditch with bare breasts, his face covered with dust and his cheeks covered with smiles. You don't need fairy secrets to teach dead trees to blossom.
