Are Calvin and Kodaly the same person?

no.

Kodaly (1882-1967) was a Hungarian composer and music educator. He is one of the most famous figures in Hungarian music in the 2th century. His representative works include Hungarian Hymn, Secheli's Spinning House, Variations on Peacock, etc.

"Kelvin gesture" is an integral part of Kodaly's music teaching method. The gesture was initiated by John Curwen (1816–188) in the 197s, so it is called "Kelvin gesture".

Gestures represent seven different roll names by means of seven different gestures and different high and low positions in front of the body, which reflects the high and low relationship of the sung sound in space. It is a form of body language for the adjustment and communication of pitch and intonation between teachers and students.

Kelvin gestures

In music reading teaching, we don't just emphasize how high this note should be sung and how low that note should be sung, but use Kelvin gestures appropriately. Because of the different notes, the gestures used are different, and different gestures are supplemented by different spatial positions, which can make students associate the roll-call and relative pitch of notes, and visualize the high notes that students find elusive to some extent.

In the usual teaching, let students learn to sing simple scales by changing the hand shape and adjusting the hand position; When teaching new songs, let the students make gestures and read music under the guidance of the teacher's piano sound, so that the students are very interested in singing and moving, so the fear of reading music is unconsciously weakened, and the accuracy of intonation is greatly improved.
