Zhong Nanshan, winner of the Order of the People's Republic of China and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, entered anti-epidemic lecture halls in universities across the country and gave a popular science lecture on "New Crown (Omicron) Epidemic Dynamics and Response". The country is currently experiencing the second wave of the Omicron epidemic, which is characterized by strong transmissibility. Zhong Nanshan believes that Omicron is constantly mutating and becoming more and more transmissible, but its pathogenicity is greatly weakened. In the early stage, the infection sites were the upper respiratory tract, airways and lungs, but after two years of mutation, Omicron was mainly concentrated in the upper respiratory tract. Judging from the national trend, after Omicron infection, the proportion of asymptomatic infections increased significantly. In this regard, Zhong Nanshan said that he has analyzed the epidemic situation in Guangzhou, Beijing, Chongqing, Zhengzhou and other domestic cities since September this year, and believes that the case fatality rate of the new coronavirus epidemic is close to that of influenza.
