From the 6th century BC to the 5th century BC, a new school of philosophy appeared in the southern Italian city-state, Elia School, which was later called Elia School. It is generally believed that Sanofini is the founder of this school.

Xenophanes peaked around 540 BC, probably at the same time as anaximander and Pythagoras. He was originally a postscript from Ionia. When he was young, he was expelled from the motherland for opposing Persian rule and became a bard. In his later years, he settled in the city of Elia.

He traveled in southern Italy and Sicily for a long time and made a living by reciting his own or others' poems to the public. He lived a long life, nearly a hundred years old. Legend has it that he participated in the construction of the city of Elijah, wrote a book called Call for Nature, wrote elegies and satirical poems, etc., and only some fragments have been preserved so far.

He is a poet and theologian, not a philosopher strictly speaking, but he expressed the basic views of Elias school in the form of theology, which opened up a new way for philosophical thinking. Sanofini opposed the traditional polytheism and anthropomorphism in ancient Greece. He said: "mortals think that God is born like them, with consciousness, sound and form." Therefore, "Ethiopians say their gods are all black-skinned and have flat noses, while Thracians think their gods are all black-haired and blue-eyed." This is not that God created man, but that man created God in his own image. In this way, "if both cows and lions have hands and can draw and sculpt like humans, cows will draw the shape of God like cows, and lions will draw the image of God like lions." Not only that, in "Homer and hesiod described God stealing, adultery and cheating each other, which is also considered shameful and should be condemned by the world." Sanofini believes that the god created in this way is not worth worshipping at all. He believes that God is unique, "all things are one", and one is God. He said; "A god is the greatest among gods and people, and it is different from the dead in body and spirit."

Moreover, it is further stipulated that God is deeply rooted in all things, is extrasensory, eternal, has no beginning and no end, lives somewhere and does not move at all. God is different from mortals in form and spirit, but he can see everything, think of everything, hear everything, and dominate everything in the world with his thoughts. God is infinite and limited. This is a perfect sphere.

The origin of all things is one, and God is this one. Therefore, God and the world are the same, and God is the world and the whole nature. In this sense, Xenophon is a pantheist. Sinology Xinzhitang

Sanofini put forward that the first is the origin of all things, and stipulated that this one will never be born, never die, never change and never move. This denies the authenticity of concepts such as movement, change, birth and death. Only one or God is real, and everything else is unreal, just an illusion.

Heraclitus affirmed the truth of birth, death, illness and change of things, and thought that "everything flows and everything does not stay", and the only real thing in this world is change itself. The Elijah school believes that the complex world is actually one, immortal, without movement and change, while the movement and change in our experience are only illusions and have no authenticity. Sanofini's successor will prove that movement and change are unreal and nonexistent.

Sanofini divides knowledge into two kinds, one is about God, and the other is about the only or true knowledge, that is, truth. One is the knowledge about a bunch of things in sensibility and their movements, changes and mixing, that is, opinions. Sanofini defines essence as one, that is, truth, simplicity and stillness. Deny life and death, change and movement, and think that they are only perceptual appearances, illusions and no reality. But he didn't seem to choose between truth and opinion. He said, "No one knows for sure,

No one will know god, I said, and the universe.

Because even if someone is lucky enough to say the perfect thing,

He won't know; Because opinions pollute everything. "

According to these poems, we seem to see that Xenophon thinks that everything is uncertain, and knowledge about the nature of God or things is impossible. This is considered as the earliest exploration of skepticism.

In natural philosophy, he seems to say: "Everything originates from the earth, and everything belongs to the earth", but later scholars generally don't think that he regards the earth as the origin of everything. He also inferred from fossil evidence that all living things, including people, originated and grew from water and soil.
