Reflections on The Scholars

After reading The Scholars, I fell into deep meditation. Writer Wu outlined a satirical novel for us, satirizing the poison of the imperial examination system and feudal ethics, as well as the extreme hypocrisy and social bad habits caused by the desire for fame and fortune at that time; Described a vivid image, lifelike figures, worthy of being evaluated by Mr. Lu Xun as "a collection of broken brocade, combined into one post, although not huge, but different from time to time."

"Fame and fortune have no credentials, and I have tried my best to make mistakes. Drink three glasses of turbid wine and the water will flow. " This is the beginning of The Scholars, but it is the center of the whole article. This is the first sentence I saw when I first read this book. I was confused at the time. I don't understand the meaning of this sentence, and I don't know what the story of The Scholars has to do with this sentence. So I didn't notice, but I saw the back. Scholars can study all night for wealth and money. You can go from black hair to white hair: Liang Hao, who won the first prize at the age of 80, Zhou Jin, who is still a "little friend" with a gray beard, and Jin Fan, who is still ecstatic after taking the exam for decades ... These people in The Scholars have both fame and fortune. At that time, the pernicious feudal imperial examination system forced scholars to pursue fame and fortune in order to enjoy great privileges. Yes, wealth and fame are both things outside the body, but when people see fame, they risk their lives for it and get it. It tastes like chewing wax. Throughout the ages, which one can see through?

Of course, there are also people in the Confucian forest who are "drunk and awake alone, turbid and clear alone". Wang Mian is one of them. Because of his poor family, he has been herding cattle for his neighbors since childhood. On the cow's back, he still reads widely, and even taught himself to be a famous pen for painting boneless flowers. From then on, from ordinary people to rich people in the magistrate's county came to ask for paintings. However, Wang Mian has a different temperament and does not seek official positions. The court wrote to Zhejiang Political Department to recruit Wang Mian as an official, but he lived in seclusion in Huiji Mountain. Later generations often call Wang Mian Wang Shenjun. But did Wang Mian ever become an official? Can be in front of fame, inner peace, unmoved, and only Wang Mian these scholars phoenix feather scale Angle.

After reading it, I was a little confused myself. What is the purpose of reading? Now I am studying in primary school, and there will be junior high school and high school in the future ... There is no end to learning, but sometimes you will ask me, "What are you studying for?" I'm speechless. But I know that we can't pursue fame and wealth like the corrupt feudal church in the past. Think about the present society, although there is no pedantry in the past, there are still so many students studying day and night for some exams, some are so excited that they even jump off a building to commit suicide! Many people "eat and drink" with diplomas. I think this is the irony of scholars. We are primary school students now. Maybe we don't study like that to be famous, but when we get lost, we may regret it.

I think, when I finish reading this book, we should not only feel ridiculous for the degeneration of feudal society, but also make clear the purpose of our study. There is no limit to learning, so we should explore in the world of knowledge, not study for fame and fortune. We should learn from Wang Mian, learn from his qualities of leading an honest and clean life and not being afraid of powerful people, and learn from his choice of seclusion rather than pleasure in the face of great wealth. In this book, I got such a feeling.
