Zhu Ziqing embarked on the road of literature. At first, he was famous for his poems, published a long poem "Destruction" and some short poems, and received Snow Dynasty and Traces. Since the mid-192s, he has devoted himself to the creation of prose, including the collection of essays "The Back", "Miscellaneous Notes on Europe", "You and Me", "Miscellaneous Notes on London" and the collection of essays "Standards and Measures" and "Appreciation of Elegance and Custom". His essays include landscape writing, travel notes, lyric writing and essays.
First, he wrote beautiful scenery articles such as Qinhuai River in the Shadow of Paddle Lights and Moonlight on the Lotus Pond, which showed the achievements of vernacular literature. Following the sentimental works such as The Back, Children, For the Dead Wife, he set up a model of "conversation style" prose with rich literature and nature. Finally, the poet, the scholar and the fighter are unified by the mixed feelings with subtle words and interesting reasons. He has contributed to the construction of modern prose style which is simple, lyrical and natural.
As a scholar, Zhu Ziqing has made great achievements in poetry theory, classical literature, the history of new literature and Chinese education. He is the author of Miscellaneous Poems, Poems Expressing Ambition, Classics Talking, Chinese Teaching (with Ye Shengtao) and the handout Outline of China New Literature Research, etc.
The book is included in The Complete Works of Zhu Ziqing (Jiangsu Education Press). Zhu Ziqing worked hard all his life. There are 26 kinds of poems, essays, comments and academic research works, with more than two million words. His legacy was compiled into Zhu Ziqing's Collection and Zhu Ziqing's Selected Poems.
As a scholar and professor, Zhu Ziqing has made great achievements in classical literature, Chinese education, linguistics, literature and art, aesthetics and other disciplines. His contributions are various, especially the study of classical literature and Chinese education. Classic Talk is a collection of papers on Zhu Ziqing's systematic comments on the Book of Songs, Spring and Autumn Annals, Chuci, Historical Records, Hanshu and other ancient books. It is written in simple terms and is still an introductory guide for young people to study classical literature.
Distinguishing between Poems and Ambitions is his most skillful work. This paper makes a longitudinal and subtle investigation on four aspects of poetic theory, namely, expressing ambition in poetry, teaching poetry, comparing prosperity with change, and clarifies their context and historical traces of evolution, thus correcting the fallacy. He has also made in-depth research on 19 ancient poems, Yuefu poems, Tang and Song poems, and made serious textual research on Li He and Tao Yuanming. He has written fourteen poems, five poems in Song Dynasty, problems in Tao Yuanming's chronicle, and Li He's chronicle.
He is rigorous in his studies, informative and sharp-minded, and his writings on this subject are nearly a million words. Zhu Ziqing has always been concerned about Chinese education in middle schools and universities. He and Ye Shengtao have joined hands and written books such as Chinese Teaching, Examples of Intensive Reading Guidance and Examples of Skimming Guidance.
He edited many kinds of teaching materials and textbooks, and before he died, he co-edited Enlightened Advanced Chinese Textbook with Ye Shengtao and Lv Shuxiang. He is a rare Chinese educator, as Ye Shengtao said: "He is a conscientious and competent Chinese teacher and literature teacher.
