On the Land of Xia Sai Qu [Tang Dynasty]
That night, the black geese flew very high, and Khan quietly escaped during the night. I was about to lead the light cavalry to catch up when the snow fell full of bows and knives.
Translation:
Dark clouds cover the moon at night, and wild geese fly in the sky. Khan's soldiers took advantage of the night and planned to escape quietly. Just as I wanted to lead the light cavalry to chase all the way, the heavy snow fell on the bow and knife. The whole poem depicts the scene of soldiers chasing the enemy on a snowy night, expressing the hardships of fighting and the brave spirit of soldiers.

Xia Sai Qu is a poem about soldiers chasing deserters at night. The whole poem does not directly write fierce battle scenes, but it leaves readers with a broad imagination space and creates a long poetic atmosphere. The poem begins with a scene: "Wild geese are soaring in the bright moonlight". Such a scene is difficult to describe: "the moon is dark and the wind is high", then there is nothing to see; "Wild geese fly high", there is no trace to be found. Three or four sentences about our army's preparation for pursuit show the mighty spirit of the soldiers. "And we chase them with light horses" means that the pursuers will send them without sending them.
Creative background:
Lu Lun suffered many failures in his early years and was recommended by Yuan Zai and others. After the Zhu Rebellion, Hun Wang of Xianning went out of Zhenhe and promoted Lu Lun as the judge of Marshal's Office. This is the beginning of life in Lulun frontier fortress. In the military camp, Lu Lun saw all the solemn frontier fortress scenes and all the rough and heroic soldiers. Under this background, he created this group of frontier poems.
Xia Sai Qu also embodies the characteristics of China culture at that time. First of all, it has a strong patriotic complex and national spirit, showing China people's loyalty and love for the motherland at that time. Secondly, it describes the living environment and lifestyle of the northern minority society.
Finally, the tragic fate of the bottom people describes the whole picture and complexity of the collision between the Central Plains culture and the northern nomadic culture. Today, this poem has become a classic in China's classical literature, which is well known and loved by readers.
This poem also shows the author Lu Lun's personal feelings. In this poem, Lu Lun repeatedly used natural scenery to set off emotions, such as "After three months of war, a letter from home is worth a ton of gold." His Letters from Home and Bonfire show the author's concern about war and family. In addition, the poetic language is concise, the words are concise, and the sentence pattern has musical rhythm, which shows the author's unique artistic style.
