Creative background
At that time, Zheng Banqiao had just arrived in Yangzhou and was poor. When he was staying in Biefeng Temple in Jiao Shan, he happened to meet Ma Yueyan and Ma Yuelu, and they became bosom friends with each other. Later, when it was snowing heavily, he visited the two men. At that time, many literati were present together and were fighting against poetry. They saw that Zheng Banqiao was dressed in coarse clothes and thought that he didn't know how to write poetry, so they came to a dilemma.
Zheng Banqiao did live up to their expectations, casually chanting, "One piece, two pieces, three or four pieces, five, six, seven, eight, ninety pieces, a thousand pieces, and countless pieces."
Here, Zheng Banqiao paused and looked at the expressions of all the people. Some people had upturned corners of their mouths, some were whispering, and some people covered their mouths with fans. It was estimated that the fans were already shaking their heads behind them.
with a slight cough, Zheng Banqiao chanted loudly, "I can't see you flying into plum blossoms." As soon as the last poem was exported, the audience was silent, and Ma Yue and Ma Yuelu clapped their hands and said it was wonderful.
