The December 9th Movement publicly exposed the plot of Japanese imperialism to invade China and annex North China, which dealt a blow to the policy of compromise and surrender of the Kuomintang government and greatly promoted the awakening of the people of China. Cooperating with the Red Army's northward anti-Japanese campaign, it promoted domestic peace and War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. It marks the arrival of a new climax of China people's anti-Japanese democratic movement.
As Comrade Mao Zedong pointed out, the December 29th Movement "is a movement to mobilize the anti-Japanese, prepare ideas and cadres, and mobilize the whole nation" and "has great historical significance".

The anti-Japanese and national salvation demonstrations of Peiping students dealt a heavy blow to the traitorous activities of the Kuomintang government and forced the establishment of the Jicha government committee to be postponed. The December 9th Movement won the support and response of the people of the whole country.
Patriotic students in Tianjin, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Xi, Kaifeng, Jinan, Taiyuan, Changsha, Guilin, Chongqing and other cities held petitions and demonstrations, or issued declarations and sent electricity to support the patriotic actions of students in Beiping. The Students' Federation of the Shaanxi-Gansu Soviet Area also sent a response message, and people from all walks of life in the Soviet Area gathered to support the students' anti-Japanese and national salvation movements all over the country.
