An art gallery refers to a facility for preserving and displaying works of art, usually centered on visual arts. The most common exhibit is painting, but sculptures, photographs, illustrations, installation art and arts and crafts works may also be exhibited. The main purpose of an art museum is to provide exhibition space, but it is sometimes used to hold other types of art activities, such as concerts or poetry readings. In addition, art galleries usually have the function of promoting education and research related to culture.
