1. "Inscription on the Wall of the Western Forest"
Su Shi of the Song Dynasty
Viewed horizontally, it is a ridge with peaks on its sides, with different heights near and far.
I don’t know the true face of Mount Lu, just because I am in this mountain.
Translation: Looking at Mount Lushan from the front and side, the mountains are rolling and the peaks are towering. When you look at Mount Lushan from a distance, from near, from a high place, or from a low place, you will see that Mount Lushan shows various different appearances. The reason why I can't recognize the true face of Lushan Mountain is because I am in Lushan Mountain.
2. "Quequatrains"
Du Fu of Tang Dynasty
Two orioles sang in the green willows, and a row of egrets climbed into the blue sky.
The window contains the snow of Qianqiu in Xiling, and the door is docked with a ship thousands of miles away from Dongwu.
Translation: Two orioles sang gracefully among the green willow trees, and a neat group of egrets soared into the blue sky. Sitting in front of the window, I can see the snow that never melts all year round on the west ridge, and the ships from Soochow, thousands of miles away, are moored in front of the door.
3. "Sitting Alone on Jingting Mountain"
Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty
All the birds are flying high, and the lonely cloud is alone.
Jingting Mountain is the only one I never tire of looking at.
Translation: The birds are flying high without a trace, and the lone cloud is free and leisurely. You look at me, I look at you, we don’t hate each other, it’s just me and the Jingting Mountain in front of me.
4. "Birdsong Stream"
Wang Wei of the Tang Dynasty
When people are idle, the osmanthus flowers fall, and the night is quiet and the spring mountains are empty.
When the moon comes out, birds startle the mountains, and they sing in the spring stream.
Translation: There is no sound, the fragrant osmanthus flowers are falling gently. The green mountains and green forests look even more empty. The bright moon rises, startling several roosting mountain birds. The crisp chirping echoes in the empty mountain stream for a long time.
