At the age of twenty-nine, he didn't do anything. He was an official several times, but only took humble positions such as offering wine to join the army. Not only did he fail to show his ambition to help the world, but he also condescended to deal with some officialdom figures. He hates official life very much. At the age of forty-one, he became a magistrate of Pengze County, but after only eighty days in office, he abandoned his official position and retired to seclusion because he didn't want to bend over for five buckets of rice, and since then he has lived an idyllic life. After retiring to the countryside, Tao Yuanming personally took part in some agricultural labor and had more contact with working people. Great changes have taken place in thoughts and feelings. This played a positive role in his later creation. Most of Tao Yuanming's works were created after his retirement, reflecting the rural life at that time, and therefore he became a famous pastoral poet in China.
