In 1955, director Yan Gong asked Liu Chi to compose the music for the film "Flowers of the Motherland", and he readily agreed. One day in July 1955, directors Yan Gong and Su Li led all members of the film crew and a large group of twelve or thirteen-year-old children to Beihai Park to experience life.
