March of the Volunteers

□Tian Han

Get up! People who don’t want to be slaves!

Build our new Great Wall with our flesh and blood

!

The Chinese nation has reached its most dangerous moment,

Everyone is forced to make one last roar.

Get up! stand up! stand up!

We are united as one,

braving enemy fire and advancing!

Advance under enemy fire!

Forward! go ahead! go ahead!

(Selected from "Selected Poems of Tian Han", People's Literature Publishing House, 1982 edition)

Red Tide Song

□Qu Qiubai

The red tide is surging ,

The dawn clouds surged,

Awakening

the dream of more than five thousand years.

The ancient Far Eastern country

Forty million compatriots,

singing with one voice

the sacred labor.

Attack fiercely, attack fiercely,

Smash this evil thicket of imperialism to pieces!

Be brave, be brave, and liberate the laborers of our colonial world.

No matter black, white, or yellow, there will be no slave race!

From now on, the gospel will spread all over the world,

Civilization is only waiting for the creation of Great Harmony.

Look!

The brilliance surges forth.
