The new platform is bright, and the river flows eastward. I want to marry a husband, but I am as ugly as a toad. The new platform is tall and majestic, and the river flows eastward. I wanted to marry a Mr. Right, but I was ugly. Set a fishing net to catch fish, not thinking about swimming in the toad net. I want to marry a wishful man, but I have become so ugly.
Make an appreciative comment
If we understand this poem according to the old theory, the first and second chapters are dedicated to Chen Qi, and the third chapter is inspired by comparison. At the beginning of the poem, he boasted how spectacular the new platform built by Wei was and how rich and vast the Qi River flowing through it was.
All this is to exaggerate Wei's greatness and decorate the facade. It can also be regarded as what Chiang Kai-shek (Xuan Jiang) saw, and has been confused by the superficial phenomenon of Gong Xuan. She got married in pursuit of Yan Wan's kindness and wanted to live a happy life with perfect appearance and harmonious piano and harp, but unexpectedly she became a plaything in the hands of a bad old man.
The whole poem has three chapters, and the first two chapters are repeated. The first two sentences of the two chapters are evocation, but there is a fu in evocation: Wei wants to seize his unmarried daughter-in-law, and first builds a "new platform" to show the legitimacy of the incident, which is really a cover-up. For example, the emperor of the Tang Dynasty wanted to seize his son's birthday princess, namely Yang Yuhuan, and let her be an advanced Taoist priest to be a woman, as if this would make everything reasonable and legal.
However, ugliness is ugliness and ugliness belongs to broken glass. The poet praised "the new platform has a thunderbolt" and "the new platform has an overflow", just the opposite. Its interest is that the new platform is beautiful, but it can't cover up the ugly things that the old people do. The rhetorical device of inversion (or contrast) is used here to make beauty more beautiful and uglier.
Creation background
This poem, which is said to be written by Wei people, aims at satirizing Wei's violation of family ties, building a new platform by the Yellow River and cutting off his daughter-in-law. In modern times, some people think that this is a woman who was deceived by a matchmaker and married a non-human person, thus making a complaint; Others think that this is the teasing and resentment of women after being cheated in marriage.
