Liu Mingji of Ancient Preface

Bone deficiency is a poem by Liu Ji in Ming Dynasty.

Whole poem:

In ancient times, there were even mountain fires. In new cities, it was embarrassing.

Kyushu is still full of tigers and leopards, but Sang Ma is not seen in the four seas.

The sky is covered with clouds and grass, and rivers are covered with snow and sand.

Wild plums can't burn out, but sometimes you can see two or three flowers.

Translation:

The old garrison buildings are connected with the mountain fires everywhere, and there are rustling sounds from the newly captured cities.

Kyushu, tigers and leopards are rampant; All corners of the country, not as lush as mulberry.

In the distant horizon, withered grass meets lonely clouds and looks like hanging clouds; Overlooking the river, there are no fishing boats on business trips on the open river, only snow-covered beaches.

The cold plum blossoms in the wild are not burned by the mountain fire, and occasionally two or three blooming plum blossoms can be seen.

The first couplet of the poem points out that the author stood in a place where many battles were fought, and the ancient camps along the mountain lit bonfires one after another, which burned half the sky and described the battlefield scene after fierce fighting; The newly-built city seems to be crumbling, because the thunderous sound of the horn shook the earth, indicating that although the Yuan army was defeated, its vitality was not hurt, and it was still fighting back fiercely.

The "new town" implies that there has been a tug-of-war here recently, and the city was established with the deterioration. At the beginning of this couplet, the topic of "ancient defense" was pointed out, and the majestic and tragic momentum was written with antithesis.

Zhuan Xu used imagination to express the author's worries about the current situation: tigers and leopards are still rampant on Kyushu, devouring each other; Within the four seas, there is not a piece of land that can be rehabilitated. "Tiger and Leopard" refers to the separatist group. "Not in Sang Ma" means that people can't engage in production.

Necklace couplets actually describe the sparse scenery in front of us: the emptiness of Yuan Ye makes the sky look particularly high, and the pale clouds on the horizon are connected with decaying grass; The river is empty, and only the beach exposed by uneven snow can be seen. Show the reader a question. Where have people, boats and villages gone? Two, three, two links, one virtual and one real, write the author and the general public's hatred of war. War is raging and everything is destroyed, but the force of life between heaven and earth is tenacious after all, and it must still be spring after the severe winter.

Therefore, William said: In this desolate and bleak emptiness, Chimonanthus praecox has never been completely consumed in wildfires, and they still emerge from grass, snow and stone dikes from time to time. Isn't that vitality the hope of the future? The conclusion shows that the author is full of confidence in the emergence of a new peaceful world after the war.

The poet in the poem felt indescribable sadness when he saw the destruction brought by the war to society, but the author did not lose heart. Under the call of Zhu Yuanzhang, the poet was deeply moved, exhausted his loyalty and wisdom, and made great achievements, which made the Zhu Ming regime turn the corner several times and finally unified the world. In the early days of the Zhu Ming Dynasty, the author's ideal of "one family in the four seas, everyone is happy" was realized.
