"Song of Everlasting Regret" is one of Bai Juyi's most popular poems. It was written in the first year of Yuanhe (806), when the poet was serving as a county captain in Yumu County (today's Zhouzhi, Shaanxi).
This is a long narrative poem written by Bai Juyi in 806 AD. Bai Juyi, who was 35 years old at the time, went to Xianyou Temple with his friends Chen Hong and Wang Zhifu. During the visit, the story of Emperor Ming of Tang Dynasty and Concubine Yang was mentioned. Wang Zhifu asked Bai Juyi to write a poem and Chen Hong to write a biography. Hence, this "Song of Everlasting Sorrow" was created.
The long poem can be divided into five parts:
The first part: from the beginning to "The end of the day, the king is not satisfied". It is written about the situation when Emperor Ming of the Tang Dynasty met Yang Guifei, made her a noble concubine, and later doted on her exclusively. This is the origin of the story. The sincere affection between the two of them as soon as they met is indeed enviable.
The second part, from "Yuyang Ji came to the ground with agitation" to "Looking back at the blood and tears flowing harmoniously", this part describes the process of Concubine Yang being strangled to death in Maweipo after the Anshi Rebellion. Emperor Tang Ming wanted to save his beloved concubine but couldn't. The pain was indescribable.
The third part: From "yellow leaves are scattered in the wind" to "the soul never comes to dream", it writes about Tang Minghuang's longing for Yang Guifei. Seeing things and thinking about love, even seeing the place where the two of them stayed together in the old days makes me shed tears. Tang Minghuang is completely filled with the seeds of infatuation.
Part 4: From "Linqiong Taoist Hongdu Guest" to "Midnight when no one is whispering", it is written that Emperor Ming of the Tang Dynasty wanted to meet Yang Guifei in a dream, so he found a Taoist priest to use Taoism. magic. The Taoist priest who did a lot of magic finally arrived at the ethereal fairy mountain and saw Concubine Yang who was weeping every day. Concubine Yang asked the Taoist priest to express her gratitude to Tang Minghuang and brought her jewelry to Tang Minghuang as a token. It was agreed that on the 7th, the two people who were in heaven and earth would meet at the Palace of Eternal Life on the 7th.
Part Five: The last two couplets and four sentences express the author's feelings about the two people's undying emotions throughout life and death. Biyiniao and Lian Lizhi are the highest praise and reward for the relationship between these two people. "As time goes by, this hatred will last forever," which pushed the two people's emotions to an eternal height.
